I was diagnosed with AVN last year pre-collapse. I had decompression surgery with the insertion of a screw. All was going well and my doctor OK'd me to start running again. My opinion at the time was that it was too soon. But I started running anyway and my femoral head has collapsed.
I really would prefer hip resurfacing to a THR. So far every doctor I've met with is against the resurfacing for various reasons. I've had to do my own research and I understand that resurfacing is an option for people with AVN. However, I'm wondering if the screw will complicate or exclude me from being able to get my hip resurfaced. Has anyone ever run into this before?
I'm not familiar with the condition you describe regarding previous surgery but I'd suggest contacting some of the top HR surgeons with xrays to get their opinions. May not be the best geographical situation for you but Dr. Pritchett is well known for handling difficult surgeries and revisions and would be a good place to start.
Thank you. I've got Dr. Pritchett's contact information. My preference is the Endotec and since I can't find anyone else that uses this device I'll be contacting him on Monday.
He's a very efficient [words of the Operating Station nurses], extraordinarily skilled and knowledgeable surgeon. He will be able to give you an honest, clear and straightforward opinion to make your decisions. As you know, he's been at this a very long time and someone I'd recommend to anyone seeking Orthopedic consultation. Best of luck and keep us informed.
