So it is friday, the anniversary but todays close enough, I am a year in.
Yesterday I accompanied by 78 year old dad on his stock 20 mile bike ride. He’s fit and I can never catch him in the last mile when he kicks. Yesterday for the first time, I did keep with him!
I can say too that apart from still a little feeling (not discomfort, just ‘knowledge its there’) of the scar, I feel like I have an 18 year old hip again. I’m 54. I have an amazing range of movement, and I am not a yoga junkie. I can easily cross legs / see under my foot / tie laces / sit crosslegged all day long. The knee will not come right up to my chest, not quite, but I am not bothered really?
And of course, zero pain.
I am just off to do my stock walk/run/walk loop of a few miles. I have had to take it slowly as my leg was quite wasted before the operation (I left it a long time for my reasons) so when I started trying to run maybe 4 months ago, I really messed my calf up. But its going well.
Long may it continue.
Congratulation! So happy you have such a great story to share.
I wish you the very best and many more Hip Anniversaries!
Pat
I put your story on the main website for you https://surfacehippy.info/spartykuss-hip-resurfacing-with-mr-shakir-hussain-2022/ (https://surfacehippy.info/spartykuss-hip-resurfacing-with-mr-shakir-hussain-2022/)
I wish you the best and will watch for future updates.

Sounds as if you are doing well. I left my first one too long before getting it done. The calf muscles are about half the size of the other leg after many years.

Hi David
I guess you had yours done at ROH….? I was under the care of Ronan, Derek’s partner in pioneering the BHR. Ufortunately I put it off just a few months too long as he retired from NHS work just as went from to denial to nothing else mattered. Still I have a great result and Mr Hussain was amazing. How are your relative leg definitions now?
My left leg has always been less developed than my right, even when I was running competitively. I guess we are all born different shapes
