Title: Help!!!!! In need of advice
Post by: daveyboy on May 14, 2024, 06:16:37 AM
Hi All.

Desperately need advice.  Had my right hip resurfaced in 2014 by Ronan Treacy. incredible pain right from the get go. At the 6 weeks follow up there were signs of significant Heteropic Ossification.  Brooker Grade 3. Still managed to train BJJ but in pain.

Fast forward to 2018.  Had right hip arthroscopy, to try remove some HO bone jamming up the hip.  Day later,  disc exploded on to my sciatic nerve. 7 days after that had an emergency microdiscectomy.  Unfortunately that did not work and I now have permanent foot drop.  However, still managed to work as an Electrician and train BJJ when possible. Then, fast-forward to 2022. Ronan Treacy, attemted to de-bride my right hip with open surgery - did not work.

So here I am - facing two further surgeries. Bridle tendon transfer on my left foot, Sep 2024, followed by a right hip re-vision.  The new hip surgeon has said, I'll have better range of movement because of the neck / head ratio of a THR. This will also give space in the femoral neck region.  Moreover, he wants to remove the BHR shell and use a titanium implant.  Reason being, there's a chance of generating high frictional torque if left in. So my question is this. If i'm to have a THR revision, whats your thoughts on Dual mobility V Large head ceramic on XPLE?  I'd like to get back to impact sports and not worry about dislocation or wear. Also, should I push for anterior approach surgery if HO has been a thing ?? Based in the UK.  Thanks for reading.
