Title: Anyone with at least 15 years resurfaced hip REVISING to total replacement?
Post by: jamiecortlandt on March 07, 2025, 08:11:04 AM
Writing to ask if anyone with years under their belt (no pun intended!) with a resurfaced hip has had to have a revision.  I am facing this decision (for some key reasons) and it is tough, but at the same time, I want a good strong hip for the rest of my life.

Hi,
I had my right hip resurfaced MOM in 2002 (McMinn) revised to a total hip replacement in 2022 (Dr Su).  The resurfacing failed after 20 years as the bone became soft and the implant loose.  The revision op was v simple and easy and Dr Su was able to leave to cap in place and just replaced the femur implant.  Bear in mind that I was in my mid 30's and young when I had my resurfacing done and knew that it wouldn't last a life time, but it was a great decision and would make the same one again.  Hope this helps.
