Title: Can you have a different device in each hip?
Post by: sherry on September 14, 2008, 09:47:26 PM
I have a C+ in my left hip and it's perfect. If I go to Dr Raterman in Tampa I think he uses the Birmingham. Anyone heard of having different devices in each hip?

I know of several people that have different kinds of resurfacing devices in each hip.  For instance a BHR and now a Cormet. Also some other combinations, can't remember the specifics.

I also know of a handful that have a THR and a hip resurfacing.  Some had a THR first before they learned of hip resurfacing.  Several that had revisions of the hip resurfacing to a THR then needed the other hip done.

The most important factor is always the surgeons experience and skill.  That way both legs end up that same length and working well.

Good Luck.
