I will be flying next month for the first time with my new BHR. Has anybody had problems with the metal detector or with passenger screening? Will the BHR set off the metal detector? I am sure if I was on crutches it would be easy to explain but a younger guy with no limp doesn't look like he had a hip replacement. I would hate to go through the strip search :D. Bill
You could offer to pull your pants down and show them your scar....Ha Ha.
I wondered that too actually, seems like there should be some kind of a card available ??
I've read that the screeners will not even look at a card given by a doctor. Kind of makes sense because cards can be counterfeited.
I think we're all doomed to being pulled aside and wanded.

I just returned from Newark, NJ and was patted down after walking through the metal detector. He asked if I had a hip replacement and I said yes (left hip resurfacing with Dr. Su on 9/29/08). I grabbed his outstretched arms to walk through the metal detector without grabbing the sides of the detector or using crutches.
I did ask some of the screeners about it, and they confirmed that they are instructed to ignore any cards relating to joint replacement, since they could be so easily forged. I just allow a few extra minutes for the "pat down".
