how soon is it safe to have a bath after bhr.
the only literature i got on the subject was concerning a thr
As far as getting in it depends on your tub situation and how well you're doing. I think most doctors shy away from wanting you in the tub. Post op you do not want to risk a fall or you could fracture your femoral neck.
The other thing I've read is that most doctors do not want you submerging your incision until it's completely healed without scabs. I cannot remember exactly when I tried the tub, it may have been 7 weeks or so. It was nice to soak my sore muscles in the tub. I am now 3 months post-op and most everything is easy.
Best thing to do, call your doctors office and follow their advice.

Like me you will probably be ok to have bathtubs at 6 weeks when you go for your followup! I sure couldn't wait!

Hi Larry
Each doctor has a different protocol. Ask you doctor to be sure.
I had waterproof bandages because Dr. De Smet has people in the pool several days after surgery for PT. Most US doctors don't do that.
So each person needs to remember that each doctor has a different protocol. Always ask the doctor or call up his office and ask your questions.
Never take chances by doing what someone else has done.
Good Luck.
