Dr. Treacy Soon
« on: October 31, 2007, 06:54:36 PM »
Hope its ok to continue on the same thread here :-)

Visited the Hip Workshop last week at the Royal Ortho Hospital to sort the do's and don'ts aswell as helping equipment around the home etc. That all went very well. I tried to visit Dr Treacy's Secretary but she was on holiday so phoned today...

Well I find that I'm second on the list! That was a shock and surprise and I'm probably looking at been admitted in Dec but no exact date. My heads buzzing to say the least after thinking it will be Feb. I'm going to have to inform work tomorrow so fingers crossed how they take that :-)

Hi Steve

I started you on your own thread since you are about to become a Mr. Treacy patient.

Good Luck and keep us informed how you are doing. Mr. Treacy is a great hip resurfacing surgeon.

Mr. Treacy was my surgeon just over a month ago, he is great!  I have had a very easy recovery even though I had a pretty messed up hip severe OA and hip dysplasia.  Ms. Sumner is Mr. Treacy's asst and surgical nurse she is very nice and very helpful.  I had a nice time in Birmingham, I went to the Priory hospital instead of the Royal Orthodpedic but that was more because of when I could jet over from the states, and which of the 3 dates worked best with the airline schedule.

You are in great hands!

Well I now know I'm in on the Wednesday 12th December which is a bit of a change due to believing it to be February.

I've got my pre operative assessment this Wednesday.

Things are still on my mind but I realise I couldn't ask for much better with Treacy preforming it and the joint is really causing issues now with walking even quite short distances.

It's not far away. You will be out of pain and hopping around on a new hip soon.

Good Luck.

I feel I've had the rug pulled from under me today :-(

Pre-op was fine I gather they deal with other operations so didn't ask
that many questions. I've probably ask them hundreds of time before
thought I was annoyed I forgot to ask to see a BHR to have a play with it.

Bad news today I'm afraid. The secretary has just phone me and Treacy
is not in the country now on my op date. Next scheduled day is 20th
Dec which is full so I'm now down for the 10th Jan. Despite my fears
about having it done I'm looking forward to recovering and been free
from the problem after all these years. I've asked for a cancellation
if someone has the misfortune to not be able to make it.

I feel rather down now today with the news, I suppose its the price to
pay for Treacy doing it himself :-(

Hi Steve

It is Thanksgiving in the USA today.  I am Thankful for many wonderful things in my life.  Even Thankful for the fine folks from across the pond that came to settle our country many years ago. I am Thankful that there is such a thing as a BHR and great doctors around the world that can give them to people.

Don't feel sad that you have to wait a little extra time.  You will still get to use Mr. Treacy - one of the best in the world.

I will be Thankful for you that you still will get a brand new hip from Mr. Treacy to start the new year right.

Have a great day and you will soon have a great new hip.

A poem for you:

Start the year
with a BHR
it will be
the best by far.
Soon you'll see
Mr. Treacy
for free.
Get a brand new hip
how glad you'll be.

While I am sure you are sad to have to wait, it is worth it,for Mr. Treacy. I am currently 9 weeks out walking without any assistance and starting to build my strength back.  For the first time in four years I can move without pain and I am without any pain anywhere.  It is so nice, I get to go back to my favorite sport in just over 4 weeks and I couldn't be happier.

The system in the UK is different but I had heard the waits were much longer since a resurfacing is now the norm for hip repair, for younger hips. Like I said before...it's worth it!

Happy Holidays,

Leslie

I'm counting those days again till Jan 10th but have asked to be informed if there is a cancellation on the 20th Dec. So only a few days, I've booked the evening off because of working a late shift just in case I get a call. The 32oz steak and bottle of wine is on standby. I'll be honest I don't know what to expect the first few days so any pointers would be appreciated :-)

Hi Steve

I hope you get that call on Dec. 20 and that will be your Christmas present.

I have over 100 stories on my Hip Stories page.  If you take some time and look around you find extremely detailed stories starting right post op on out each day at a time.  I read a lot of the stories before my surgery and knew exactly what to expect.  http://www.surfacehippy.info/hipstories.php

Did you check the Dr. Traecy stories  http://www.surfacehippy.info/hipstories.php#Dr.%20Treacy

Some of the stories are almost an blow by blow, hour by hour, diary of the person's post op expereince.

I am sure you will be fine.  Good Luck and I hope you get that call.  If not the steak and wine sounds good!

The cancellation didn't happen, though I had doubts if I'd get a call.

The good news though is I'm now confirmed for the 10th Jan so only a few days waiting now.

I've spent most of the weekend moving stuff around and buying bits I need etc and trying to keep myself busy. Its funny I've managed to eventually get around to all those little jobs you keep meaning to do but will probably do them next week.

So not much to report, I had a stinking cold over Christmas but its gone now so hopefully no one will give me another :-)

The wait continues for a few days and my nerves will be shot by the time Thursday comes around but looking forward to be able to move my left leg without that horrible crunching noise and taking stupid amounts of tablets.

I'll post up Wednesday night and then when I'm home and feeling a bit better :-)

Hi Steve

The wait is almost over.

I want to wish you the very best with a quick and easy recovery.

Please let us know how you are doing.

When you are finally on the other side - please start a NEW TOPIC post about your surgery and recovery.  It will be easier to find - and you deserve to have your own story posted.

I will also post a link on the HIP STORIES of the website to your story when you start posting.

You deserve the best and have patiently waited.

You will soon be a Surface Hippy!

Thxs Pat for the kind words and I'll sort out a new post after the op. I'm so tense at the moment with the last few days ticking away.

I'm on an early shift at work a(6am-2pm) and must of got 3 hours sleep last night. Hopefully I'll sleep better tonight or I'll fall asleep on the operating table before been put out :-)
