Hello Pat.
Here is alittle update regarding my recovery. 15 weeks post-op
Bilat. BHR I competed in a 25 mile bike race. I felt good during and
after. I have been surfing small waves and taken some wipe outs without
detectable problems. I have hiked 3-4 miles on moderate terrain and also
felt good during and after. I am back to work as an RN. I am still working
on developing a smoother walking style. I walked with such an abnormal style
for so many years that I must need to retrain all those muscle groups. The
hip pain/tightness went on for approx. 13 years before it ended with the
surg. I still feel at risk if I was to take a fall or if I overdue activity.
I am off all pain medication since the surgery. I take an aspirin every few
days to help improve blood flow and relieve occasional groin tightness.
Overall I would say my range of motion is quite a bit better than before the
surg. and I think I can still make alot more improvement over the next year
or so. I do physical therapy each day and think that will always be an
important part of long term hip health. Stretching and strength work is
important for anyone that wants to maintain or improve there level of
fitness. I hope this gives some helpful info. for anyone that is considering
BHR or THR. Dr. Raphael Klug from Roseville,Calif. performed the operation
Febuary 24, 2007. He is a highly skilled surgeon and equal in his bedside
manner. thank you for creating such a fabulous site for all of us with hip
problems. --Farley
