New Left hip coming soon
« on: November 19, 2012, 12:10:26 AM »
I was having a few seconds thoughts about starting the process all over again.  My right hip is great for walking but I still don't have the pain free range of motion I want.  Everyone says give it a whole year to recover.

This week I forgot my anti-inflammatory for two days and "here's my sign!"  I was in so much pain in my left hip I could hardly walk.  I realize that the med was masking the issue. Back on it and the pain is less.

I know that with dysplasia my hip will only deteriorate more and more.  I have wrapped my head around another surgery to become a bi-lat.  2 weeks and I will have 2 shiny hips!

Dee Dee, best of luck with surgery number 2.  It should go easier since you know what you are in for and you now have a strong hip on the other side.  I'm now at 1 year and my right side is like nothing ever was wrong.  My left has always been a little behind the right and I only feel it after very long exercise, not pain, I can just feel that it is there.

Good luck, keep us posted.

I'll back Woodstock on this, Dee - I can't imagine having done just one and had it hold me back.

I have two strong hips now and (getting back to disco - thanks to McFadden & Whitehead...) "Ain't no stopping us now, we're on the move"

There've been so many things that have held us down
But now it looks like things are finally comin' around,
I know we've got a long long way to go,
And where we'll end up
I don't know
But we won't let nothing hold us back
We're putting ourselves together
We're polishing up our act,
And if you've ever been held down before
I know that you refuse to be held down any more, well
Don't you let nothing, nothing
Nothing stand in your way

I know what this was originally meant for, but thought this applied. Good luck, Dee.

Best of luck Dee.  If like most, you will be very happy you got the second one done.

I'm sure this is already your plan, but be sure to follow the program, do all the exercises, ice, ice, ice, obey the restrictions and in no time you'll be disco-ing to Hernanu's tune above.

Thanks for the encouragement.

I am planning on joining a gym after my 6 weeks are up to keep active in the colder weather.   I have not been a big fitness person, but I don't like walking In the cold.

Right there with you Dee Dee!

I had number one done in January and I'm scheduled for number two, five days after you are. When I take my Celebrex, I don't feel too bad. When I don't... my right hip lets me know. But the touchstone I always have (as a fellow dysplasia sufferer) is my comparative range of motion. My BHR hip can move in ways my right could only dream of. I let that be my guide. ; )

Seems like a lot of one hippers are having the other one done.  3-1/2 weeks and I will join you as a bilat.  I am glad to be able to rest around the holidays but my wife is not so happy.  She is not looking forward to getting all the holiday stuff done and taking care of me after the surgery.

Good luck Dee Dee and Barista.

Surgery is next week and I have the worst cold in years.  I went to the gd today and got on augmenton.
I took
2 tylenol
2 sudafed
1 zyrtec
2 augmenton
2 musinex
flonase nose spray
my anti inflammatory

I feel like a walking drugstore.  I slept on and off most of the day and feel better tonight.  Thanksgiving holiday was horrible fighting the sinus headache, coughing, sneezing and runny nose junk.

I have an email into to Dr. Gross nurse and hope to hear from her tomorrow.

Praying for a quick recovery.

Thanks for the encouragement.  I had my preop appt with Lee today.  Everything is go ahead.  I have recovered from the cold and sinuses to be well enough for the operation.  I am mentally ready to do this again.

One funny thing.  I went in thinking "I will have a matched set of shiny hips!"  Well Dr. Gross suprised me and gave me a choice.  It seems he has recently started offering a Wright Uncemented device along with the Biomet recap.  I of course chose the biomet.  I am obviously a woman and like matching ;)

I will report in later in the week.

Dee:

Best wishes for a successful outcome and speedy recovery.  You are in good hands with Dr. Gross so I am sure it will go well.

I was intrigued by your comment that Dr. Gross gave you a choice between the uncemented Biomet Recap and the Wright Conserve Plus devices.  Did he explain why he has started making this option available?  It seems like it would complicate things a bit for him since he would need to use different instrumentation.

All the best,

Marco

Hernan:

Thanks for your interest.  I've settled on Dr. Gross (thus my interest in Dee's recent post) and have scheduled my surgery for April 3.

I am still reasonably mobile, so I am focusing my energy on going into the surgery as fit as possible.

Best regards,

Marco

Very cool, it's good you're focusing on getting ready. Work on your upper body as well as your core to help the first few weeks of crutching, etc.
