Squeaking again
« on: April 21, 2013, 06:25:31 PM »

So in case you have not followed my story, recently I was in a boot for 3 weeks due foot pain from post traumatic arthritis (dont know how i injured the foot in the past) and stress reaction (probably brought on by not replacing my shoes after hip surgery and walking harder on that foot). I got a cortisone shot in the sore foot and was told not to resume walking for exercise until after the custom orthotics arrived. Sooo I have not been doing my 1.5 miles for almost 6 weeks.

Now I am squeaking on exertion. Hubby and I went the the zoo for an afternoon and I heard the squeak occasionally. Yesterday I mowed the yard behind a self-propelled for about 2 hours and again squeak. I was taking extra precautions to stay hydrated.  No pain- just noticed the harder I worked the hip like climbing steps, the more squeaking.

Weirdness

When can you go back to doing exercises?

Maybe instead of walking, you can get on a stationary bike. That always seemed to loosen me up and is now required for me before I go into yoga.

As ususal, Hern's advice is very good.  I started a regular stationary bike regimen as part of my recovery, and I feel much, much better when I regulary ride the bike.  When I don't I get more stiff.

As to the squeaking, maybe pushing "sports drinks" fluids might help.  I tried that over plain H20 last spring after a couple squeaking incidents, and it seemed to help.

Best regards,

Dan

Thanks guys,

I don't have access to a stationary bike, but I am doing about an hour of stretching and strength exercises each morning.

Mowed again today and no squeaking.  I am going to monitor the squeaking.

Does anyone have an idea if squeaking causes/contributes to excessive MOM wear?
