I had BiLat hip resurfacing performed in '09 by Dr. Su at HHS. It was a positive experience and altho I went very heavy on the rehab, i.e. 4 hrs. per day beginning 5 days post surgery the rehab was not difficult. I have been lifting weights for more than 40 years. I have been developing osteo arthritis in both shoulders for at least 5 years. It has gotten to the point where the inflammation is significant, especially post exercise, and the instability in the should when I do overhead or prone pressing motions is such that the rotator cuff pain in the rear deltoid area is painful and interferes with my lifts when weights get heavier. I also have a pretty restricted range of motion, due largely to osteophytes on the ball of the shoulder/ I am beginning PT to work of range of motion. I don't know how much I can improve at this time. I received cortisone shots in both shoulders for the first time today and hope it is helpful but the orthopedic doctor I went to at the Rothman Institute in Philadelphia says that surgery is very likely in the future. If I am going to have surgery I want to return to a normal, active life, including lifting post surgery. Does anyone know if there are procedures such as shoulder resurfacing, cartilage grafts, etc... that are effective and would enable me to remain active and lift?
