Hawaiian Orthopedics Conference
« on: February 04, 2014, 06:39:46 PM »
Some good stuff coming out of the Orthopedics Today Hawaii Conference. Here is a clip of Dr. Michael D. Ries and Dr. Thomas P. Schmalzried debating Dr. Ries' assertion that there is no role for hip resurfacing.

Dr. Schmalzried's rebuttal is awesome. Check it out.

That was a great rebuttal, it seemed the crowd was geared towards THRs, but without his rebuttal the pro THR votes would probably have been much higher.

Anyone have more information on that and what its talking about?

Thanks

One new design is from McMinn

"Looking towards the future, Derek McMinn reveals he has been working on the next generation of advanced hybrid cross-linked polyethylene to be used in joint replacement called Polymix. The material is strong enough that it can be used in thin layers with a wear-zone only section of cross-linked polyethylene, which provides fantastic wear-resistance in the right places. It looks as though it could be an ideal bearing choice for those patients who aren't suitable for metal-on-metal bearings. "
