Hi Ann

I am sorry.  The program I use can be confusing.  You need to go to Hip Talk
http://www.surfacehippy.info/hiptalk/
Then click HIP RESURFACING POSTS  about 1/3 down the page.

Then you will see this page
http://surfacehippy.info/hiptalk/index.php?board=1.0     where all the
questions and answers have been posted.

If you click on the NEW TOPIC Button - you can post your question.  Here is
an illustration of what you would see
http://surfacehippy.info/hiptalk/index.php?topic=10.0
I hope that helps.

I have not hear of that particular doctor. There are many new
inexperienced, BHR surgeons.  I have many of the more experienced listed
here   http://www.surfacehippy.info/listofdoctors.php  and their stats here
http://www.surfacehippy.info/doctorstatistics.php
I am a big believer, after several years of reading about hip resurfacing
and having had my hip resurfaced, that a person should use a very
experienced surgeon.  Here is why
http://www.surfacehippy.info/pcselectingsurgeon.php

Some people are quite willing to be the doctor's first of tenth surgery,
but hip resurfacing is much more complicated than a THR. The studies I have
on my website indicate a steep learning curve of 50 - 100 surgeries for a
surgeon to be experienced.  My doctor, Dr. De Smet that has done over 2400
hip resurfacings, encourages a person to use a doctor that has done at least
100 hip resurfacings.  Hip resurfacing is as much an art as a skill.  The
angles and placement of the cap and cup are very important and can lead to a
femur neck fracture or revision if not done properly.  The surgical tools
used in the operation are new and there are not as many to help with
placement as with the old fashioned THRs.  So a doctor has to be good to get
it right.

I hope that helps some.  Please let me know if I can help in any other way.

hello Pat have been watching site for some time now, just registered.  The site is great, so much information.  I am a candidate for bi lateral. I just had visit with Dr Stuchin in NY, was wondering if since post of 07 if any other info has surfaced regarding Dr Stuchin. I have appointment with Dr Su this month but my insurance does not cover him.   Also I have a cyst in ball that may intefere with total resufacing, if this is the case what would be next best option in procedure.  Just checking if any one has had similar situation.  What would be better ?  One resufaced and one partial , or whatever term is used, for procedure. Thanks mike

Hi Mike

Welcome to Hip Talk.

I am sorry but I don't have any more info about Dr. Stuchin.  I am not sure how many hip resurfacings he has done to date.

Sometimes people have been able to appeal to their insurance companies to use other doctors.

I would meet with Dr. Su.  See how you feel about both of them.  Did you like Dr. Stuchin? Did he answer all your questions?  How many resurfacings has he done?  Will he do both hips at the same time?

It is always good to have several opinons.  You might feel better about your surgery after meeting Dr. Su.

Be sure to get all your questions answered.

If you do use Dr. Stuchin, please try to post your post op stories so people can learn more about him.

Some people do have one resurfaced hip and one THR.  If you do end up with a THR, they will most likely suggest a metal on metal  MOM that is the same size ball as your resurfacing in the other hip.  They only difference will be they have to cut more of your femur off and the THR cap portion has a long stem. I know some people with both and say they really can't tell the difference.

thanks pat
Dr stuchin was in my opinion very knowledgable and seemed very comfortable doing both and also definitely pro resurfacing. he has only been doing since 06, and is doing about 3 or 4 per month at his time.  I will talk to insurance again ,but appeals difficult if they have Dr who offer procedure,  thanks agin, Also looking to see if any others out there have used Dr Stuchin.

Hi  Pat, have appointment with Dr Su on Tuesday,  I'll see if he  has any concerns about cysts in femur , as Dr Stuchin does.  Still have insurance issues, but will see him , and take it from there.  thanks, again mike
