First 5k since surgery!
« on: May 04, 2015, 11:50:02 PM »
Just passed my 5 month anniversary.  Was getting sick of stationary biking, so I decided to try the treadmill out. Ran 5k in total, around 8:40 pace. A good 2 minutes per mile slower than what I used to do. But I am happy to be running again. Hip feels great, but everything else was sore for a couple days.

I never thought I'd be able to run again. Here's to many miles ahead!

Hi Shabbis, well done on getting back to 5k at a steady pace! We are at about the same stage, 24 weeks today for me, but I have been jogging 5k for a bit longer and have managed to get down to 25 minutes - which is where I was last August, well before the op but limping with the pain. Just started training runs (a second run in the same week) and managed 7 miles yesterday at 9:20 pace. Metal hip is fine, OEM model has good & bad days and will be the limiting factor going forward...

Awesome shabbis!  You're time will come back with conditioning - same as always (but you do need to account for the age curve ;) - not sure how long ago you were running 2 mins/mile faster).  I've noticed that once I account for aging (age-grading is your friend)  my post-surgery races are just as fast/slow as they ever were depending on what kind of shape I am in, and how my training has gone.

Welcome back, and here's to many more races ahead!

Hi Shabbis,
Great work on getting back into the Run . :D It all takes time ,and you have heaps of that left in ya. Take it easy , and BUILD SLOW N STEADY . I AM 10 MONTHS POST OP. AND HAPPY WITH 5KM @ 05:40PKM PACE. I , like you , were around 08:00pkm pace to start with. I run in Hoka " Clifton " shoes.
Remember, we are in it for the LONG HAUL, so patience will bring the rewards later on down the track. :) Cheers.
