Jess W’s Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Brooks 2012
August 26, 2012
I am a 28 year old male who underwent BHR on my left hip on June 13, 2012. I was 6 weeks 75% weight bearing on crutches and then at around the 7 week mark I hit about a dozen golf shots from 100 yards away. The next day I noticed some swelling in my hip and it is now 9 weeks post op and still very swollen. Can anyone tell me if they are having any swelling like me at 9 weeks or if I did any damage by hitting the golf balls?? My Physician Assistant said no and has scheduled me to see my surgeon on Sept. 18. I am just concerned because prior to swinging the club that day I had no swelling at all.

Inside the joint feels great which I’m very thankful for, but all around the incision ( the incision is down the lateral side of my leg) is very sore, greater trochanteric bursitis, tight gluteal muscles, and even pain in my thigh below the incision. Not sure if this is normal for 7 months post op? I’ve tried pt exercises and stretching but in my opinion it’s aggravating the muscles more than helping at this point. I’m just afraid this pain, tightness, tenderness of the soft tissues will never leave. It just seems that at 7 months I should be seeing more improvement, I suppose I have to be more patient. I had surgery by Peter brooks at Cleveland clinic. He basically told me that with time I will feel better. I hope he’s right. I had an MRI which showed a small amount of effusion which indicated a seroma, but my doc says that is of no concern at this point.
I saw my doctor, Peter Brooks, two weeks ago and my xrays looked perfectly normal.
