Brian Flanagan’s Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Whately 2018

Hip Resurfacing Information at Surfacehippy Posted on August 26, 2018 by Patricia WalterSeptember 6, 2018

March 4, 2018

I first met Dr Chris Whately more that 1 year ago. He directly mentioned that I could be a good candidate for Hip Resurfacing. He is from Canada. He took a lot of time to explain everything.

I’ve seen him last week and he explained that he is comfortable with both technics : total hip replacement or hip resurfacing. For my case, he said that I am a good candidate for hip resurfacing : male, young and in good shape.

I can’t remember the name of the device he uses (not BHR), but this is the … Read the rest

I am a runner and had my Hip Resurfacing by Dr. Pritchett August 2017. Since then I have run 5 10k’s Our running club has a 10k series that my wife and I participate in. Christina’s 2 Year Update for Hip Resurfacing with Dr Su 2016 at age 27

Hip Resurfacing Information at Surfacehippy Posted on August 19, 2018 by Patricia WalterAugust 26, 2018

I just thought I’d share with everyone that I am 2-years out from my hip-resurfacing with Dr. Su and I am still thrilled with the results. I am an athletic woman of average height and build. I was 27 years old at the time of surgery.

My journey since operation: I spent a very long time trying to get my strength back, which was lost not during the surgery, but during the injury. Limping around, having issues with stairs, and putting all pressure into my quads caused a lot of muscle loss in my hamstrings and glutes. It took me … Read the rest

David’s Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Pritchett 2018

Hip Resurfacing Information at Surfacehippy Posted on August 5, 2018 by Patricia WalterAugust 16, 2018

Back to playing Hockey after Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Pritchett.

I was 48 when I received the very surprising diagnosis of arthritis in my left hip. My pain wasn’t that bad at the time so I really didn’t think it was as bad as they said. The first words I heard after my initial X-Ray were “You need a Total Hip Replacement! I was stunned. I thought I had a strained tendon or a torn labrum, arthritis wasn’t even on my radar. One Dr. rated the damage an 8 out of 10! I was in denial and didn’t want to … Read the rest

The Before and After Effects of a Hip Resurfacing Operation:

For more than 2 years I suffered severe pain in my right hip, which arose from a common arthrosis. The pain was so intense that I had to completely forget about undertaking any form of sport, which in turn made me very depressed. I had been a passionate sports person, playing tennis all my life and occasionally other sports like squash, jogging and skiing. In the end walking a short distance was a struggle, even with the assistance of a cane purchased in the hope that it would help relieve … Read the rest

I Want a Hip Resurfacing But am Concerned About the Negative Response in the Medical Community

Hip Resurfacing Information at Surfacehippy Posted on June 2, 2018 by Patricia WalterJuly 4, 2018

A new member of the Hip Talk Discussion Group is considering hip resurfacing, but very concerned about the negative press and the medical communities not supporting hip resurfacing.

Patricia Walter, owner of the Surface Hippy Website, responded to his concerns about hip resurfacing in the following article:

Hip Resurfacing is a very special method of replacing a hip. Ever since I began this website in 2005, hip resurfacing has never been widely accepted by the medical community. There might be several reasons for that. One is that hemi-resurfacing which only replaced the femoral portion of the device had very poor … Read the rest

June 1, 2018 – BARCELONA, Spain – Total surface replacement may still be a viable hip arthroplasty option in young, active patients based on how well it fared in a study when it was revised to total hip replacement vs. primary THR that was revised to THR, according to a presenter at the EFORT Annual Congress…

…“Our study shows, therefore, that there is less blood loss, there’s a shorter length of stay and better function in patients undergoing revision of resurfacing as opposed to revision of a standard stemmed prosthesis,” Kent said… Read the rest
