On Sunday, June 4th, I accomplished a goal that I’ve been preparing for over a year. I successfully completed my first Tough Mudder. I have been physically, mentally and spiritually transformed in the last 12+ months. From not even being able to simply run…to now after my hip resurfacing leaping, jumping, running and climbing PAIN FREE !
Thankful to friends and family who have encouraged and applauded my hip resurfacing through it all! Your energy sustained me.

This may be a little long but hopefully it will help those who don’t have as easy a time with surgery as most and are on the Slow Program with Dr Gross.
Update from a “slow programmer”… Now in the beginning of week 6 and feeling pretty good. Since the first 4 weeks were essentially 10% or toe touch on my operated leg I had no idea if my hip was better or worse than before I had … Read the rest
A Birmingham Hip Resurfacing Solution for Young, Active Patients with Hip Arthritis in Ontario
Toronto is North America’s 4th largest city and has the fastest growing population in need of hip surgery, yet Toronto has limited experience in hip resurfacing doctors. This has left a void for patients in urgent need of this procedure.
Recognizing this gap, Dr. Brooks at the Cleveland Clinic has been able to help a number of Ontarians receive the appropriate treatment.

I would have checked in sooner. Been figuring out which position is best in the hospital bed, PT, icing, resting, debating with the nurses on pain medication, and more icing, has just been so much fun, I couldn’t get away from it.

As of June, 2014, I am on the road back to full activity, including I believe basketball within the next six or eight weeks – no reason to push it. I’ll be 57 shortly and my BHR will be 4 years old by Christmas. I have no concerns whatsoever that this will last me a long time and enable me to do whatever the rest of my body allows!
Dr. Brooks and Phil Golnick have been great and I have … Read the rest

I’m typing this from home. Surgery went great on Friday. That night I was on Percocet and oxycodone alternating every two hours. My pain was a 2 or 3 on a 10 scale. But, all that medicine caught up with me around 7:00 am. I sat on the side of the bed and looked out on to Lake Erie and thought I would throw up. Like motion sickness. They gave me an injection of something and that … Read the rest

I believe I’m the small female Dr. Brooks is referring to that had hip displasia with a tilted pelvis. It’s been 8 months since my surgery and I thank God everyday that I was a candidate for this surgery. I have absolutely no pain. I am loving life again and anxious for my annual check up! Thanks to Dr. Brooks and his most excellent team!… Read the rest

Dr. Brooks discusses why he became an orthopedic surgeon and hip resurfacing. 2018
I had read with great interest the input on the board regarding traveling to get the best surgeon. In making my decision, I gave a great deal of thought to seeing Dr. Gross in particular because of his reputation and experience. In the end, I went with a local (Cleveland, Ohio) surgeon. I found a number of advantages. I initially consulted with two resurfacing docs in Cleveland following a referral by my orthopedic non-surgeon doctor whose colleague recommended a MOM
John Kalnay’s Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Brooks 2009
John Kalnay is the gold medal weight lifter at Pan Am games, 5 years following his left BHR done at age 47.
I would like to relate my most recent experience with Dr. Peter Brooks at the Cleveland Clinic:
Some Background. I am a 65 year old male who has always been in good shape. Years of running and racquetball began to take their toll about 10 years ago but as long as I felt that my activities of daily life were not severely compromised I continued to postpone the inevitable. That ended this fall when I could no longer work out, … Read the rest
August 4, 2008 I am on day 11. I had the BHR done by Dr Brooks at the Cleveland Clinic. Today is the first day I feel somewhat human. My pain has been in the front of the thigh with a lot of cramping type pain in the leg. I am only allowed to put 75% of my weight on the leg for 6 weeks after the surgery. I was surprised to hear you say that you were still on … Read the rest
