September 13, 2018 – I’m happy to report that I LOVE my new hip. I had follow-up xrays which shoed everything looking good, and my non-op hip in perfect shape, as well.
Last year I decided to try racing (I’ve been rowing for 9 years, but not racing, and the pain was unbearable by the end). I’m happy to report that at the end of this month I am going … Read the rest
My BHR is 12 years old. I have not ever had any problems with it or my hip. The real problem is that it is doing great while the rest of my 73 year old body is wishing it could also get an overhaul. LOL
Hip resurfacing is still a great option when you are a good candidate. There are very few problems with hip resurfacing for most people. There are always a few who … Read the rest

How long will my leg continue to swell and hurt?
The pain usually decreases rapidly during the first days, but discomfort can continue for a couple of months. The swelling is due to alterations in fluid return up the limb, and will gradually diminish, but may take a couple of months or longer. Mobilization, exercise, stockings and elevation helps.… Read the rest
There has been a lot of discussion recently in public forums about hemi resurfacing. Hemi resurfacings are not normally used by the most experienced hip resurfacing surgeons. I have been privileged to personally speak with many of them and I know their negative feelings about hemi resurfacing.
Performing a hemi resurfacing is like only doing half the job. The past history of hemi resurfacing has shown it to be a poor choice for most patients. … Read the rest
Occasional reports of joint replacement implant failure because of an apparent allergy to one of the metals in the device have appeared in the orthopedic literature ever since metal implants were used. (1-3) It is now recognized that a small number of patients will suffer from a form of allergy or hypersensitivity to constituents of the metal-on-metal bearings even in the absence of high wear or a known metal sensitivity (4-6). The histological features of … Read the rest

THE APPEAL LETTER TO CIGNA (NAU IS “national appeals unit”)
Dear CIGNA NAU:
I have received your written notice, dated Aug. 27, 2004, denying my initial

AMC Ghent, Krijgslaan 181, 9000 Ghent, Belgium Background: While providing superior hardness and improved wear characteristics, hard bearings such as metal-on-metal, or ceramic-on-ceramics bearings have different lubrication properties than hard on soft (metal- or ceramic-on-poly) bearing couples. A failure in this lubrication mechanism in metal-on-metal resurfacing prostheses can lead to squeaking… Read the restMay 25, 2010
Dear Pat,
I indeed will start with the C plus uncemented.
I will cautiously start this and study this together with the University of Lille France.
Results only can be accepted if they are longer then 3-4 years. Nobody is there yet!! So again we have to be very cautious with results at this moment.
