Infection from Dental work

I'm 7 weeks post op from LBHR. 45 yr old male in excellent health pre-surgery.  Everything has gone perfectly; walking without limp for about 1 1/2 hrs per day and riding recumbent at a low level for 1/2 hour daily.  Everything has gone smoothly to this point.

Yesterday, I cracked a tooth that required work and eventually was pulled.  I took my pre-meds as instructed an hour before the procedures (2 in 2 days).  My dentist contacted my surgeon for instruction on the type and dosage of antibiotic; so he was aware of the pending dental work.

Has anyone out there had an infection from dental work?  Should I still be taking an antibiotic?  This is making me nervous as many advise not to have any dental work done before 3 months.  However this was unavoidable-should I be concerned?

Hi

If you are still concerned about an infection from the tooth, why not call your surgeon's office and ask about getting a course of antibiotics for 10 days.  See what they have to say.  Better to be safe than sorry.  Perhaps, the dentist did not feel there was any further chance of infection.

I think you might need more input from both the dentist and your doctor.  It is best in any medical situation to get the information right from your own doctor.

Good Luck with your new BHR!
