Best thing I have ever done! Got my left hip resurfacing with Mr McMinn in 1999 and 20 years later it’s still great. I’m an active person doing cycling, walking, swimming, gym and judo. A normal hip replacement would have probably been revised 20 years ago! Right hip resurfacing done in 2014 and perfect and still very active at nearly 67.

The first advantage of a hip resurfacing is that the hip device, due to its large size, allows a person to return to any of their favorite activities without restrictions or possibility of a dislocation. The old fashioned total hip replacement devices use a much smaller diameter ball as compared to size of your natural femur bone. The small size of the ball allows a hip to dislocate more easily. The size of the hip resurfacing device is matched very closely to the original size of your hip, so any movements you make are much less likely to cause … Read the rest

Today is the 5 Year Anniversary of my left Hip Resurfacing with Dr. Robert Marchand at South County Hospital in Wakefield, RI. My hip has been great. I am very active on it as well. I do a lot of cycling. I also work as a college football official in the fall and have no issues at all during the season. I do continue to do a lot of stretch, strength and stability exercises as well, and feel that plays a big role in how successful my resurfacing has been.
I had my Left Hip Resurfacing done by Dr. Robert Marchand on 4/2/14. My age was 44 at time of surgery.
I used to frequent this board quite … Read the rest
When Tony Switzer’s hip was too young for replacement, Dr. Eric Nelson, from Waupun Memorial Hospital, a member of Agnesian HealthCare, suggested hip resurfacing, saving Tony and his wife a hospital trip far away. Now Tony is back in the swing of things after his hip resurfacing and enjoying his favorite activities pain free.
Hip Resurfacing patient, Andy Murray, meanwhile, may have been watching on with interest in the match with Bob Bryan. Bob Bryan secured a second title of the season. Bob is returning to tennis after hip resurfacing surgery at the start of this year.
Bryan had the same hip resurfacing operation as Andy. He won the three-time Grand Slam champion last summer. He partnered his brother Mike to a 7-5 7-6 (10-8) win over Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas and the Netherlands’ Wesley Koolhof.
Bob had his hip resurfacing with Dr. Su in 2018.

It was two years ago that Joe Virag of Dearborn Heights, a dedicated runner…
…was told that he needed a joint replacement — and his running days were over…
…Virag found a metro Detroit orthopedic surgeon (Dr. Schmitt) who specializes in a type of unconventional hip replacement surgery known as a Hip Resurfacing that is commonly pursued by male patients under 60 who wish to stay active. ..
…Virag went on to have both of his hips replaced in late 2017. He has been back to running for almost a year and says he remains pain-free. And neither he nor Dr. Schmitt are worried about this exercise regimen prematurely wearing out the new hips.

It has been so long since I reached out to say hi and I apologize for that. Once you get your life back you tend to jump in full blast and not look back. I hung around the surface hippy site for a few years but when the notes became so negative I had to back off. It wasn’t syncing with what was going on in my life post-surgery. I just saw Dr. Rubinstein last week and I thought about you and wondered how you were doing. I am writing to do just that.
I hope all is still well with you and the family. I started playing hockey 6 months after surgery and continue to play to this day … Read the rest
I started https://surfacehippy.info in 2005 because I felt people should have information about hip resurfacing. The website has had many updates and design changes, but always provided information and personal stories about hip resurfacing. There have been many changes in hip resurfacing and available devices over the years. The one remaining constant has always been – hip resurfacing is an excellent choice for active people that want to be out of pain and return to their previous activities. The top, experienced hip resurfacing surgeons are still doing hip … Read the rest
March 6, 2019 One Year AnniversaryI’m happy to say that I’ve pretty much been able to forget about my hip! I had my left hip resurfaced by Dr. Brooks of the Cleveland Clinic 2/26/18. Last week was my one year follow up. X-Rays looked great, everything was where it was supposed to be…so I’ve been released to full activity. I can’t be happier with the results of the surgery. I have been completely out of pain for some time now. It’s seems crazy, but I’m still seeing improvements to my flexibility and stability in my hip one year later. Some of the most noticeable improvements to the feeling of stability have come in just the last 3 months. Living everyday life without pain has… Read the rest
I had my BHR – Birmingham Hip Resurfacing at the age of 15 due to perthes disease. It has been absolutely fantastic since I have had it. Mr Treacy was my surgeon. I think this year will be a milestone, I will have lived longer with a BHR in my right hip than a normal one!
I have always been active, going to the gym, hiking, cycling (long distances), swimming.… Read the rest
