I had Surgery on Jan.14th this year, and I know it is up to my doctor, but I would like to ask everyone, How soon before you think I will be able to start running again ?   looking to ask everyone here their opinions,   some have experience with this, and many here have real , practical running stories ,  so please help me out with your thoughts on time limitations on running ??  Thank you ....

Hi Biltz,

Follow your doctor's protocol for rehab. Mine told me I could begin running at 6 months post op. I started very slowly and only run on a  treadmill, grass, trails or a track. I'm experimenting with a new running technique called "pose" running. It seems to take the pounding stress off of the knee, back and hips. I only run short intervals, but am running them fast now at just past 9 months post op. Email me if you'd like to discuss further.

take care,

My doctor suggests that his patients wait 12 months before they start running.  I am at 12 months on my second BHR today and started running a little during my 3-5 mile walks two weeks ago.  I haven't been able to run for at least 5 years, so it's been a bit of a challenge.  In fact, I've pretty much gone back to walking for the time being, until I strengthen up a bit more.  I am happily able to participate in many activities, like golf, that I had pretty much given up before my surgeries, without any pain -- during or after.  Now if I could just get my old swing back!

My doc allowed running at six months. I started running uphill on dirt at about five months, but avoided pavement or downhill sections. All went well.
