I had what I "self diagnosed" as bursitis for about four weeks afters surgery. It was a moderately severe pain on the outside of the greater trochanter, which really delayed my initial attempts at walking without crutches. :( I stayed on crutches for about five weeks, and the pain gradually went away. At exactly six weeks, it went away completely, virtually overnight. No problems with it since then. :)

I suspect my little bout of activity, i.e., walking trade shows in Vegas, doing a 2 mile walk with my nephew on Sunday, almost an hour of water arobics on Tuesday, has flared up a good case of Bursitis.  Pain and tightness over the side of the hip. More painful now when when I get up out of a chair, walk, and climb stairs.

Therapist suggested I take it easy for a few days, use ice and heat, and take some ibprofin.  I've had three almost sleepless nights in a row now...

I guess too much of a good thing, ain't!

Did catch a really good movie last night, or should i say early this morning, on HBO:  The Education of Little Tree.  http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119052/  I highly recommend it!

I have read stories about people who did develop bursitus in their resurfaced hip.  It did hinder their activities.  I think some received steroid shots to help.  I just don't have any of them posted.

Next time I hear of one, I will try to get the story posted.

So far, I have not.  I had it prior to my surgery and my doctor did give me a shot that helped quite a bit.

i wonder if i have bursitis

about three weeks ago i noticed deep burning pain at incision site and fatigue, also i have continious numbness in the toes
i went back to see my doctor he said do stretching and go to the pool
i went back to pt for stretching and has made it worse
it seems like stretching hurts it
i am at a loss
i had a massage and i was told my glutes are tight and so is psoas muscle and piriformis and that could cause these problems
its starting to get frustrationg , i was doing so good and now im not

I know you've tried whirlpools, have you tried icing the heck out of your hip area?

Try this over the weekend.  Rest the whole weekend but keep icing your hip area off and on and I am talking don't do anything other than what you need to do.  If you are still taking NSAIDS keep doing it over the weekend.

See if by Monday you're not feeling better.

i reah i spoke to an orthopedic friend of mine who told me that sometimes the ball of the new hip will move if u do too much

Don't be discouraged.

I've seen many many times someone have a slow recovery or for some unknown problem something comes up and then goes away in a month or so.

If your friend means the femoral ball, I would disagree, your femoral head was glued on.  If he means the acetabular cup, well, if that moves that is not too good, those are usually not glued and are the number one reason to need another operation, but usually you can save the HR by replacing the cup.

Sometimes it ends up being bursitis, sometimes nerve or muscle issues, don't get down.

Ice throughout this weekend takes some ibuprophen and see how you feel Monday AM.  Ice never hurts and that's the only advice I would ever be comfortable giving you.  If the icing over the weekend yields no results ask your hip doctor to get you x-rays.

although this is not the norm, he told me he sees it alot
he gave me a prescription for indocin a striong anti inflam medication and told me to stretch
have you ever heard of this
i was doing good three weeks ago

obxpelican

Yes, I've heard of your problem.  That is good news that it's not a problem with your implants.  I was thinking about you yesterday and wondering how you made out.

I am glad you got the x-rays, none of us like to see a fellow hippie with problems.

thanks for the reply
its discourgaging , hopefully it will go away
dr clarke said it was mild and was reassuring,
have you ever heard of this

obxpelican

That problem happens in shoulders a lot, my step father had it, although he passed away so I have no way of asking how he was cured.

I've heard read that sometimes it can be cured by homeopathic means, radiation and sometimes it requires surgery.  It sounds like your doctor is trying to get rid of the inflamation that might be cause the growth of calcium.

Again I am not a doctor but your problem is not as major as having to have a revision.

Keep us informed.
