I'm just finishing my eighth day as a surface hippy! My surgery (right hip) was March 10 with Dr. Henrik Malchau at Mass General Hospital in Boston, MA. Surgery was a breeze; recovery is the difficult part, especially after coming home from the hospital. It gets better every day but it's still hard to get used to the pain and the restrictions in use of my leg. Thanks to all of you who post to this site...the information and advice I read over the past year was invaluable. Special thanks to Pat for maintaining the site and answering questions. I felt much more comfortable with the whole ordeal based on this web page.

Ross,

Congratulations on making it home from the hospital. I am day 2 post op on my right and -1 on my left which will be done tomorrow.

Did you have far to travel to go home from the hospital?  I travel home on Sunday if all goes as planned.

Hi Ross

Congratulations on the new hip.  It will get better a little bit at a time.

Hang in there and you will soon be zipping around on your new hip.

Good Luck.

Uberalan:  I traveled about 45 min. by car from the hospital to my house. I will say the very short walk from my driveway into my house was a lot worse than I expected. I was using the walker in the hospital with no problem, but it was a different story when I got home. Perhaps the 45 min. ride in a car was more traumatic than expected, but it was very difficult to get into the house for some reason. I was winded and needed to rest half way through the short trip. I would advise you to stay in the hospital as long as possible.  Good luck.
