My surgeon is doing my resurfacing using the anterior approach.  Was this used on any of you?  I understand there are not so many muscles cut using this technique.

Hi Dare:
I believe Dr. Mont in Baltimore uses this approach successfully (someone please correct me if I am mistaken).

My understanding is that less soft tissue is cut/manueved and with that, the belief is, it may be better for faster healing.

I had the regular approach...but new techniques are a great thing...as long as your surgeon is a very experienced resurfacing surgeon.

That is more important than anything else.

Best of luck and fast healing on your upcoming surgery.

Hi karen,

Thanks for your input.  I am just so glad to get this taken care of but I do have to admit the less they cut and maneuver the better I will like it.  But at this point, ANY THING is better than where I have been!  LOL

dr su goes in posteriorly, learned from dr de smet...he doesn't cut any muscles at all.  he does cut two ligaments or tendons (i am pretty sure it's ligaments).
i guess that sounds pretty good to me!

I met with my surgeon yesterday.  He does replacement anteriorly but resurfacing laterally.  I don't care as long as it works!  He could go in past my tonsils (IF I still had them) for all I care.  I am just wanting some relief!!!  LOL
