Hello everyone. Thanks for the great posts, feedback and information. This is a great forum.

I am a Dr. Gross bilateral hip resurfacing patient now 4 weeks post operation.  I had my surgery on 6/29 and 7/1 in South Carolina.  I have been doing very well.  The incision on both sides has healed well.  I had some post operation bruising that was very uncomfortable that first week sitting on anything hard.  I am well over that now.

My question for the forum is this: I feel some major muscle tenderness and soreness that seems to move around a bit as I heal.  I almost feel like the bruising moved down my legs as the weeks have passed and now I have some tenderness in areas that were not around the incision point.  The tenderness is not constant. One day it is tender on the lower leg, the next in another spot.  It moves around a bit.  It is tender to the touch (more like pushing it hard with your finger makes it feel a little uncomfortable).  I feel it also when I walk - almost like a tight or pulled muscle.  I guess I just want to know if that is normal, or should I get it checked out. It is certainly bearable.  I was a little concerned about a clot, but because it moves around, I don't think that is it.  Thanks.

gravity will make the excess fluid or blood around the operative site track down the leg. The more you are on your feet the more you may notice pain and swelling further down your legs. Elevation and ice will help. A clot usually causes pain, warmth, redness and a firm feeling over the back of you calf. That is different and obviously more severe. It won't get better with position change or ice. Also once the severe arthritic pain is gone from the hip, you may notice pain elsewhere, such as your  ankle or knee, during your exercises. In time it should all improve, but you may just be adjusting to having a more normal gait. I found I had to wear my orthotics all the time to help my foot, ankle and knee discomfort as my hip healed. An experienced physio is very helpful for advice.  Good luck
