Hydroxyapatite by Biomet now available. When will Regenerex?

I have research all the available methods and have come to believe that Dr. Gross is using the 'state of the art' product available for use in this country. It seems that the press fit component that has a good bone growth material would eliminate the failures that come from the glue. If you are a believer in this method, as I am, the Biomets 'Re-Cap System' has one of the most aggressive bone growth material called 'Titanium Porous Plasma spray (PPS)'. I spoke with Dr. Gross last week and he said they also received the approval to use the Hydroxyapatite (HA) coating applied to the roughened Titanium coating. This is all good news.

It appears that this bone growth material is the direction many top companies are aggressively pursuing. The Biomet PPS system has a micron roughness of 12 to 30 microns.
Biomet is coming out with a new bone growth product called 'Regenerex'. It is claimed to be "enhanced interconnecting pore structure, resulting in revolutionary material that provides for high levels of biologic fixation". It has a much more aggressive roughness of 100 to 600 microns. (Fixation in as early as 2 weeks in animal studies.)

They have a system already available called Regenerex 'Ring Lock' for the Acetabular. I called Biomet and they said they were going to develop this for the 'Recap system' as well. They could not tell me when this would become available.

I have scheduled my surgery with Dr. Gross for Nov. 16. and want to make sure I'm not a couple of months away from an even better product.

I do not know about Regenerex, but I will tell you that if you look up the one failure (not due to the cementless) doctor Gross had even the method Dr. Gross was using the fixation that was generated is really good and solid as they were able to section off right down the middle where you could see the bone and implant.

Personally I would have no problem having the surgery done now as the first few years has been a really successful for uncemented, I've yet to have anything fall out yet.    ;D

I really think Dr. Gross is on to something and from what I'm hearing other companies are started to think about what Dr. Gross has developed.

Arguably Dr. Gross is one of the best hip surgeons in this country.
