Trying to figure out how long I can wait before I have to have it done.

I am new here! I started having problems with pain and it felt like my hip was freezing up. Went to the Doc that fixed my broken leg (12 places in car accicent he did a great job) he gave me a couple of shots with a needle as long as my arm. (wow) It helped ). I am pretty confused about who when and where. I live in the Dallas Texas area. How long is to long. Would like to wait a year so I can get up and running at work. But not sure how to make that decision so I do not wait to long. It sound like if you wait to long you might not be able to have it done. Any tips out there for me.
