Hi Larry

I could probably do it to be honest mate. I think the Boxing day pram race pub crawl is more appealing! ;D My groin is very tender, and staright leg lifts are still hard work. Otherwise its not going too bad.

I seem to forget that it was major surgery, so I shouldn't be too concerned yet I don't think!!!

Hope you are keeping ok.

Regards

Hi All

11 weeks post op on Friday. Went to see the physio yesterday, who insists I'm doing very well!

I have progressed to two extremely hard therabands for strengthening my glutes further!!! Can't wait to get started!! ::)

Still have a sore groin though. The physio assures me that it will settle down in time.

However I am going to the gym 5 times per week, so its only a minor thing obviously.

We can't help comparing ourselves with others when we read about experiences of others cann we? I was hoping to be back playing golf and running again by now, but I have decided that due to our awful climate I am going to leave the golf until next spring. I'm going to see my consultant on 11th December so I might ask about running again.

So that's me up to date for now.

Sounds like you are progressing well.  Remeber it does take time for your body to heal.  Usually around 6 months is when we feel pretty well healed.  Don't forget, though, that it takes up to a year or more to be fully healed.  Most surgeons pretty much turn you loose to do as you wish at 6 months.

Have fun.

Netta

Hi, this is my first post but have been looking at the site for a while and think it's brilliant and very helpful although it has at times made me feel like I'm not doing enough!  I'm 5 weeks post op today (left hip BHR, Mr Treacy) and haven't got back to the gym yet or swimming.  I found the guidelines on leaving hospital a little vague as to what I should be doing at this stage and I'm not driving yet (I was told not to drive for 6 weeks) which is a big reason why I haven't tried swimming and doing some gym work.   I'm still using 2 sticks from time to time (mainly because my family tell me off if they see me with one stick) but I can manage quite easily with one.  I have my post op hospital appointment on 2 December and hope to get their clearance to drive and have a go at whatever!
I've been encouraged by this stream of posts so please keep it up!

Netta

PS As there seems to be a football theme here I am a WBA supporter but not as avid as I was in the late 60s!

Hi Netta, have you looked at the Mcminn Centre website, he's quite conservative compared to some (which is way to go imo) but lots of good advice anyway, this site is great, think I'd have gone mad without it  :)

Thanks Pashley.  I've just checked the Mcminn Centre website out and found it really helpful -my exercise routine has increased as of now!  :)

Hey Guys,
I'm now seven weeks post-op and feel great. Last week my surgeon, Dr. Su, said that my recovery was "off the charts". I'm going to the gym and doing whatever I can to get back to the way I was 5 years ago before OA hit. I really think that state of mind plays a big role in this recovery. If you want and need to get back to normal, you have to think positive and just do everything you can to achieve that goal.
