Hi everyone

I had my left hip resurfaced in nov 09 and don't recall having any problems with back pain.  However, I am now 3 weeks post surgery having had my right hip resurfaced and am experiencing awful pain in shoulders neck and lower back.  I put this down to walking on crutches but now i'm only walking with one crutch its no better.  It doesn't help that we have to sleep on our backs and i do have several pillows and cushions to kind of prop me up!  Actually started taking anti-inflammatories again! these are helping - has anyone else had this problem post op and is it likely to be a temporary thing.

Hi

Since you just had surgery 3 weeks ago and used crutches - I would guess that you have to give your back and neck time to heal after stressing them out.  Nothing heals overnight.  Using armpit crutches is really hard on your back.  I used elbow crutches, normally used overseas, which was much easier on the body.  You just have to give your body time to heal. YOu need to put the pile of pillows under your legs to make it more comfortable and to keep your legs elevated.  Toes above the nose.  Pillows proping your head up won't help your back and legs.  Also that may be causing back and neck problems.  Any time you do something different, you body pays a price.

Give yourself time to heal.  Good Luck.
