I am 34 year old rider of FMXSpirit.com team (Freestyle motocross)
Last year i cannot walk properly but I did one show.
Because of a Kitesurf accidente 5 years ago, now i have to do a Hip replacement.
Should go for Smith and nephew Oxiunium on XLPE (not metal, not ceramic).
For extreme sports (kite, wake, snow, fmx) how long should i recover ? 6 months, 1 year or never again ?

Elzealves - first find a doctor that you like, that  has done a lot of Hip Resurfacing and then that dr will be able to help you answer these questions.  I had a Birmingham Hip Resurfacing and have been told I can return to trail riding and racing enduros at some point - after 6 months, but all depends on how well the x-rays look and the bone is growing into the implant.   I am a 47 yr old woman and have ridden/raced all my life - and still LOVE riding!!!  I hope to ride in July or August!!

This is all specific to each person, so you really need to find your doctor first.  Returning to FMX may be possible.  The one thing for sure is that your hip - in most cases - will feel GREAT and you'll have range of motion back to be able to do most anything you want.  There's a lot to read on this site - so do your homework and get reading and find a good doctor.

Are you talking about this one ?

Pretty sure that material is only used for thr's, not bhr's. I could be wrong though, don't quote me. I was told if mine were to fail that is what they (Kaiser) would revise to. I would say go with a resurfacing and not a thr if at all possible. As far as recovery time I was told complete bone ingrowth can take up to a year if not longer, I would say plan on a year, why risk it ? A perfect landing would be a piece of pie, it's the not so perfect landings you have to worry about.

ps. Nice pic !!
