PLease don't let one study sited by an surgeon that does not do resurfacing scare you.  First listen to Mr. McMinns videos concerning this negative info  http://www.surfacehippy.info/mcminnnegativepr.php  The study he is talking about sites the results from 30 associate surgeons, not even expeirnced surgeons.

There has not been a problem with high metal ions with any resurfacing done correctly.  If the acetaular cup is placed at the proper angle, there is no extra edge rubbing and high metal ions.  The top resurfacing devices like the BHR and Wright C+ have had very few problems. Partly due to the highly expeirnced surgeons placing the devices.  Several of the other devices are off the market and many inexpiernced surgeons used them causing a lot of negative press.

I can site more statments and articles including the national registries, but Mr. McMinn gives a great explanation.  Personally, I would want another BHR to match my first one.  I would choose to go to a handful of the most expiernced surgeons in the UK.   Mr. McMinn, Treacy, etc.  I don't know how you use your system for a choice, but a handful of people on the group have done so.

I would not want an inexperinced surgeons to place any hip device in me.  Experince is the key to having no problems in most cases.

Just been to see surgeon one year on from operation. I had some X rays taken and  blood sample taken. I have a DePuy asr, and naturally I presumed that as a male patient, the recall was not an issue for me. However he told me that I only have a small femoral head, and the cup size is on limit for the failing devices.

I am only 43 years old, and If I have to have a revision in the near future, I will be very angy and annoyed.

The ironic thing I that I could have chosen which implant to have!!

Should DePuy not be paying compensation out for their "faulty device"?

Surgeon says they will pay for the revision if necessary. Why should they get away so lightly??

It doesn't seem very fair.

Hopefully it will be ok.

gav, go to the following depuy web page:

http://depuy.com/corporate-information/depuy-divisions/depuy-orthopaedics-inc/patientasr

there is a number to call in england for you to get a claim number. depuy says they intend to cover all costs -- we'll see if their actions match their words.

Gav - We will keep our fingers crossed that you don't need a revision.  There have been many ASR used and the patients have not had problems.  Let's hope you are one of them. Dr. Bose of India did a large number of small Indian women with the ASR and as far as I know, has not had any problems.

Thanks Pat

I have spoken to the helpline, and they have given me a reference number, and they are sending me a medical consent form to sign, so that they can write to my surgeon no doubt.

They are not taking this likely according to the person I spoke to.

I'll let you know how I get on.

I received a medical consent form from a loss adjuster, so that De Puy can approach my surgeon for my medical records.

I have to go back every year for tests for the next 4 years or so. I argued that DePuy should be paying for these extra consultations and not myself ( I have a policy excess) and my insurers and they have agreed to pay for them.

As my surgeon has told me to give up running, I'm naturally suspicious of this. This suggests to me that he became aware of the issue soon after my device was fitted. The whole point of having the op was so I could carry on my running and physical activity.

Not happy.

Has anyone else had any dealings with DePuy recently? Or their agents?
