Hey all,

tom here....i'm now 10 days post op and i guess i'm doing pretty good. I have excellent range of motion in my new hip and am able to do all of the exercises. My physical therapist has been coming to my house and has been great, each time my range of motion improves a bit more, and the pain has been tolerable without that nasty percoset.
Now the problem! I do have what is described as moderate arthritis in my opposite hip(Dr. Su said it's about 2 yrs. behind this new one). The hip is killing me! The pain in my opposite hip has actually surpassed the fixed hip. The other problem I'm having is spasms in my lower back. They have both been keeping me up at night! I'm not sure what to do. Dr. Su said it's not unusual for the opposite hip to take on more stress, but this really sucks!

Pat, Vicky, anybody do you have any suggestions.

Thanks, love you guys,

tom

Hi Tom

Join the rest of us - great new hip - opposite hip hurting, back hurting and knees hurting for some.  Throw in some shoulder problems from being on crutches and you complete the picture of a body trying to heal.

Your whole body is compensating for the old hip that did not work properly and now has been sliced and diced!  You just have to give everything time to heal and get back to normal.  You have put an even larger strain on your back and "good" hip since surgery.

I still have back problems and my "good" non-operated hip has bursitus.  If I start to be really active with reptitive motion - it really hurts. Dr. De Smet told me it is not ready to be replaced.  So I just have to watch what I do.

Time and patience are the best healers.

Hang in there!
