Thanks for the reply (I am the one who created this posting but I messed up my account trying to add information it ended up deleting it).

I am super impressed by everyone on this site so far.  Some serious athletes too!  Thanks again for everyone helping out a new guy, It means a lot !!

I am still waiting to hear back from Dr. Brooks office.  I sent my information over quite a while ago and haven't heard back.

I plan on getting copies of my x-rays and MRI tomorrow from my ortho that did my arthroscopy 1.5 years ago.  I am going to send a set to Dr. Gross tomorrow afternoon as it looks like he and Brooks are my choice so far.

Does anyone know how often people get rejected by doctor's and told they are not ideal candidates?  I had this hip scope 1.5 years ago and they shaved down some bone on the femur to help with an impingement.  I keep having nightmares that this is going to eliminate me from being a candidate for resurfacing and force me into a total hip replacement.  I hope I'm crazy but just wondering if anyone else out there has experience in this.

Hi mate I hope that a hip scope doesn't make you ineligible for a HR too as I had mine done 6 months ago and I'm rapidly heading towards HR as you are!
I know gary2010 I think is his user name off here had a hip scope and later a RS so it can be done. But I suppose each case is different! I will be truly gutted if I'm unable to have RS but the guy who scoped my hip said if ever there was a ideal candidate for it its me so I'm hopefully but I've yet to see a RS specialist.
I noticed in your earlier post you train mma you trained long?

dgossack - Good luck on your upcoming surgery in August.

TinSoldier-Great blog, thanks for your story.

Ernie-Your recovery inspires me.  I hope I do as well as you have so far.  Thanks.

halfdone-Thanks for the link and for the advice.  I took a lot from it.

23109VC-I really appreciate your story, I can definitely relate to your situation.  I read some old posts of yours.  SLOW DOWN man!!!!.  Just kidding.  Take care man and keep up the good fight.

Danny-Best of luck on your mma/fighting career once you get your hip issue solved.  Thanks for the post and definitely keep me updated.

KateKosar-Your a serious athlete!  Your recovery gives me hope and I wish you all the best.  5 weeks out and I am sure you'll be doing marathons again before you know it.

LoriCee-I want to especially thank you for sharing your story.  Everything you wrote came from a positive place and I commend you for having the courage that you have.  Thank you!

Eitan-Great story man.  I am so glad you brought up your experience with cortisone because I think that is my next step in the near term.  It sounds like you've had some great results with it, at least in terms of putting off the resurfacing and buying yourself time.  You'll be back kicking butts in no time.

einreb-SOunds like your recovery is going fantastic.  3 months out and your whole life to go!  Thanks for your story.

hernanu-You got double the wisdom of everyone else!  Great story.

hipnhop-I read some old posts of yours too and your a serious athlete as well.  I am lucky to get advice from someone like you and I wish you continued success in your recovery. Thank you sir!

nekko-You are 2 years out and sounds like you haven't missed a beat.  Are you back on the tatami?  Thanks for the advice, I really appreciate it.

Pat-You have fixed and set up 2 profiles for me and from my limited experience with this site see that its a true labor of love for you.  You are going a lot of people a great deal of service and I want to say "thank you" to you especially for making this website a reality.

If I missed anyone I sincerely apologize.  Although I am just literally in the past few days accepting that this is in my future, it does a world of good to know there are so many others that have courageously faced this and overcome this before me.  Thank you.

Hey Danny, Your post came through when I was writing my last one.

Thanks for the update and let me know what your Doctor says about your resurfacing.  Did you have any bone shaved or just some labrum trimmed?

As far as MMA I am definitely not at the level you are my friend.  I trained as part of my job mostly and was just starting to get into BJJ when this injury came up.  I have gone back and forth with continuing with it but at this point I just can't do it.  I end up guarding my bad side so much and being so worried I am going to get hurt that I just can't put the level of intensity into it that I want to.  I am really hoping someday to get back to it.

What about you?  It looks like your a professional from your posts and your profile.  What do you train?  Since you are 28 and facing the same issue I am I suppose its been even tougher on you.  Are you still able to train?  Still fighting?  Best of luck to you but you won't need it.  I can tell you are the type of person that works hard for whatever it is they are going for and you WILL get past this and you will move forward.  You boys from Essex are tough!  Take Care brother.

Hi mate thanks for the Pm hope you get my reply. I know I had some bone removed from seeing my xrays last week the bone came from the edge of my acetabulum as there was massive pincer FAI impingement there. I'm not sure if he did trim my cartilage or not I remember him saying inside the joint was very arthritic and it was a lot worse than the MRI and x rays suggested.

I am close to 3 weeks post-surgery now and my OA has been diagnosed 2 years ago. This is to say that I have tried "conservative solutions" before deciding to go for surgery. Of course, I hope to be back on the tatami in one year.
Now, I am very pleased of the first results because OA pain has gone, No painkiller med is needed and no anti-inflammatory too. Of course there is some stiffness and swelling too, but I have seen that it is our common problem.
Wishing you will be a good candidate for HR

This is especially for the guys training Jitsu/MMA, but also for anyone else interested:  I am now 3 months out.  My surgeon hasn't given me any specific restraints.

1)  I have started running (I always did short 2 minute intervals, 3-4 runs with 5-6 min rest in between; been doing these for years).  Though I am not a runner per se, I can say that over the last 4 weeks of getting back into this type of training I am now only limited by the fact that I am way out of shape.  I can't even complete one 2 minute hard run.  However:  NO pain.  None.

2)  I can hop on my operated leg/foot, 30 straight bounces.  NO pain.

3)  I went to the club today and can almost shoot for a takedown.  (Never realized how many muscles are involved in this action!).  I still have a long way to go, but I do not think it's going to take me a year to get back onto the tatami.

Cheers,

Eitan

HI, I was 36 when I was diagnosed with OA.  It was quite an emotional process for me.  The first ortho suggested that I modify my life and take pain pills.  He suggested no impact sports, so no hiking, walking, stairs and to try low impact sports like swimming and biking.  I liked his ideas, until I could not hold my baby and walk around with her.  It sucked I thought surely there was another option.  I went to the same office by a different doc and he said that I could have surgery now.  My x-rays are that bad and no reason to be in pain.  I asked him about HR and he was against it, because I was a female in childbearing age and he said the MOM causes cancer.   :o
I then found Dr Rectors website from a google search and that is how I learned about hip resurfacing.  I filled out his little form on his website and he called me 5x and left messages.  I was amazed with his passion.
I then meet with him to see if I was a candiatte for hip to perform HR and I was.  I still waited 8 months to decide on getting the BHR, but I finally came around to doing this surgery.  I waited a little over a month for the date that I requested and on 5/11 I got my BHR.

I am only at three weeks out, but I have to say that I think this was an excellent surgery.  My surgeon has done over 500 BHR surgeries.  I did read in one of your post that you are waiting for surgeons to get back with you.  I was wondering have you tried posting in the Yahho boiard where Vicky Marlow is?  She has a lot of contacts with the top docs and can usually get quick responses.  I emailed Dr Su and never got a response.  I forwarded my email to her and she forwarded it to St Du and next day I got a respnonse.  Please let me know if you need to know hoow to asccess that chat room.
