It's 3 years today that I received a new right hip resurfacing from Doctor Gross in Columbia SC.

I suffered for almost 4 years with major pain from OA in my right hip, in the end I was bone on bone so bad that Lee (Dr. Gross's ass't) kept asking me how I was able to walk at all.

Fast forward to today, I can do anything, run, walk long distances, bike, jet ski, water ski and tie my shoes easily.

Yesterday we went water skiing and I was able to contort and put my skis on without assistance, last year I needed help with someone holding my ski while I put it on.  This year it took me about 20 seconds to get both skis on so obviously my ROM improved even from year 2 to year 3.

By having this surgery done it's shown me how bad my other joints are, I can honestly say my right hip is the only joint that does not bother me, I get a sharp twinge every once in a while in my left hip so I think my left side will be ripe in the next few years but I won't wait so long this time.

All I can say is, if you are having problems don't wait, when your hip is ready, do it, don't live with pain, don't give up things that you enjoy in life.

My recovery info can find be found here for anyone interested:

Great report Chuck. It has been a pleasure following you on this site. I too have found that my other hip is getting jealous, so I may see you in Dr Gross's office in a year or two.

I can't tell you how happy it makes me to read this. Too often only the problem cases report in. Not that I don't think they should, just that we need the sucesses to tell us how they are doing, also. So if you are reading this, had HR, and are doing well... please post now and then and let us all know!

Thank you, Chuck, and Congratulations!! Here's to many more years of living life big!  Lu

Hi Chuck, Thanks for sharing the great report and for all your contributions to this community. I noticed improvements in ROM (and maybe some in strength too) between years 2 and 3. Keep lookin' up!

Thanks for all the kind replies and yes, sometimes it's good to hear good reports.

Too often hippies disappear after a successful result, this site is blessed with so many hippies willing to stick around and pay it forward with such good advice and support.

Thanks Chuck.  I look forward to a year or so from now when I'll be using both hips for the kind of sports and lifestyle I used to live (toned down a little though).  It's great to have this resource to hear how life is for others who area head of us.

Great to hear you are doing well.  I am also coming up on my 3 year later this month.  Water skied this past weekend and pulled a muscle in my op leg.  No hip pain but a pain in my butt. :)

I am also feeling slight pain in my other hip after a lot of activity.  I know I am about 2-3 years away from having my other hip done.

I will be in Columbia Tues. for my 3 yr checkup. I have had no problems in those 3 yrs. I just returned from a golf trip to Scotland where I had to walk everywhere {No carts in Scotland}. I had no problems at all. Best decision I ever made.

Wow Big Blue... that is awesome to hear! Congrats and thanks for sharing!  Lu
