Thank you for the good advice!  Stretching does seem to help, just wish I knew the difference between too much and just right!

I am at the 4 week mark and I have just really started stretching.  The rule is to go slow....very slowly.  A great time to stretch is after you are done with the exercises.  Do not bounce stretch...go slow.

Sounds to me that you are doing great.  Hang in there.  In time you will be painless.

Another thought about knee pain:  A friend who is a surgical nurse described how he dislocates the hip for a hip replacement:  The surgical leg is pulled across the body as far as possible, then bent at the knee.  Next, he said that that he stands on a tall stool for extra leverage, then pushes the hip into external rotation.  Since all of this force is also going through the knee, it makes sense that many of us have swelling and bruising around and behind the knee....that much torque on the knee joint is going to cause some problems both with muscles and ligaments.  So--how to take care of it?  Pretend you had a knee injury too!  Ice, gentle massage, anti-inflammatories if permitted...

eperk,
That makes sense to me. My knee was sore for about five weeks after surgery and had a bruise on it as well. I wondered if it wasn't due to the dislocation process. Also my shoulder on the opposite site of the operated leg was sore for three weeks...really sore. Yikes.....
