Pain Urinating after Catheter?

Well, I had my surgery last Mon. Nov. 7th and had a catheter put in early Tuesday morning for about 1/2 hour.  It is now Sunday and I still have pain when I urinate.  I don't have any other symptoms of a Urinary Tract Infection but was curious how long this pain should last.  I'm going to guzzle a ton of water over the next few days and when I call my Dr. office tomorrow to schedule my follow up I will ask them.  Just not sure if it should still be burning so many days after?

Thanks,
Pete

Dannywayoflife

Pete, I don't think it should be burning this long after you had it removed. You could have a uti or it could have irritated the tissues within your manhood:-/. I'd phone em and ask there's no such thing as a silly question!

If the nurse scratched you while putting it in or taking it out, yes it could still be burning.  Drink lots of water to keep your urine dilute.

Get some pure cranberry juice today, drink plenty, if it's a UTI that may fix you up within a day or so.

Don't buy the diluted stuff, it does not work.

I think the issue was that I wasn't drinking enough water.  For some reason I've been drinking a ton of soda and not water.  Today I stopped the soda and switched back to water and the pain is gone.  I think with all my night sweats etc. I've been so dehydrated and my urin was a pretty dark orange/brown.  Now it's clear and the pain is gone.  Water is King!!!

hernanu

Pete, good that you found the right solution. A real good sign of dehydration is very dark urine

Soda is King! :o

I'm glad you got yourself fixed up.  The burning is no good.  I think my burning was from a hasty operator, becasue I was drinkning tons of water.

Tin,

I agree with you 100%.  I was awake when the catheter was installed and I must say I've never felt pain/discomfort like that before in my life.  I'm confident that is what the problem is/was.  I'm going to have my wife pick up a UTI Test kit on her way home tonight just to be on the safe side.

As for Soda I agree.  It's my only vice in life and when the chips are down I drink a ton of it.  I don't drink, smoke, or do drugs, and I love to work out BUT I also LOVE my Pepsi.  HAHA

PistolPete

So, I just took a home UTI test and the results came back with a possible UTI.  It says to try again next time I urinate and if the results are the same to contact my physcian.  WTF!!!!!  I would think this would be impossible with all the antibiotics I've been on.  I was on one all last week and finished just yesterday.  Should I call my PCP or my Surgeon?  God I hope I don't have any complications.

mslendzion

I would avoid risk and contact your doctor.  better to be safe.

Call him, Pete.

You'll probably deal with the nurse directly, but he'll be notified and either be in touch or send a message. I called many times, some times just to get reinforcement about some issue. Don't be shy, it's the only way to make your recovery good in your mind - you want peace of mind, and they are there to serve you.

And if there is some issue (like this), you can catch it early and deal with it early.

And drink lots of water.

I just retook the test following the instructions to a T AND IT CAME BACK NEGATIVE.  Will try again in the morning.  Either way I will call the dr.

PistolPete

I tested it again this morning and it came up negative.  Plus, the pain is gone so I will just continue drinking a ton of water and should be good to go.

hernanu

Sounds good... if it comes up again, call Dr. Snyder's office, they're pretty responsive.

I drank lots and lots of water in the hospital as well as some gatorade.  I was peeing like a college kid at spring break, probably just as steady on my feet!  But nurses all said it is the best thing to do post op.
