False Alarm! squeaking heard....

Hi, I thought you guys would appreciate this...

I got up a few days ago, showered, then dressed and took my shirt to the ironing board. I started ironing, then noticed squeaking whenever I moved. If I stopped moving, the squeaking stopped. I kept like this, swinging my hips around, squeaking any time I moved.

I sat down, (squeaking as I walked) at the table, and considered my options. Obviously I had to call my surgeon, then do other tests, etc. but more than anything, just needed to brace myself for any steps I needed to take.

I stood up and noticed a lot of squeaking when I did - I walked into the bathroom and looked at the mirror - I hadn't buckled my belt, and the buckle was swinging loudly with every movement. Buckled my belt and a surgical emergency was averted.

Moral of the story .... when squeaking, eliminate all buckles as a possible source before you think HR.   :-[

Great advice.  BTW at least one post on this site has heard a squeak http://www.surfacehippy.info/hipstories09/jimlaveglia09.php so your alert to that is well founded.  Look at the bottom of the Jim Laveglia story after the 2nd resurfacing for this quote

I think I vaguely remembered this, just felt betrayed by my favorite belt. If you can't trust accessories, who can you trust????  >:(

I did actually hear some squeaking from one of mine.  It happened after a strenuous uphill (and then down obviously) hike, sitting in the spa for a while and then jumping in the pool.  It first happend when climbing the steps to get out of the pool and then I could make it happen if I bent over like picking something up off the floor.  I tried to see if I could control the pitch, but couldn't.  It only lasted for a couple of hours but it really was kind of funny when it happened.  Sounded sort of like a squeaky door, or the tin man from the Wizard of Oz.

I thought it would be cool if I could play a tune...something simple like Twinkle Twinkle Little Star or Innagaddadavida...but it never happened.  The squeak happened on a Sunday and by Monday morning I couldn't produce even a single squeak at work.

In all seriousness, I did contact my Dr. about it.  He said that he had heard of it happening and that the theory is that somehow the lubricating fluid can get squeezed out temporarily from between the two components, but that there was nothing to worry about unless it persisted.  I guess the extra friction can possibly cause an increase in metal particles wearing from the components.
