Interesting stuff.  I wonder what they will find out about the source of the graphite and how we can safely optimize our levels.  I never thought that I would be able to oil my new device!

I know I'm a little behind on this, but if interested, De Smet's paper on BHR vs C+ talks about carbide blocks in the BHR and not in the C+.  I believe the beginning alloy is all the same with 1% carbon (or there abouts) but when it's heat treated, as in the C+, the larger crystals of carbide (metal and carbon), become less large and are not as obvious as in the BHR, under electron microscope.  I don't remember what the conclusions were, but I thought I saw something about forming a layer of graphite, in that paper.  Can't find it now.   Seems like rubbing on carbide could produce a layer of graphite.
