Resurfacing Patients - length of hospital stay?

Patients who have had resurfacing to one hip, how many nights were you in the hospital?  I'm expecting it to be three nights, surgery on Saturday and checking out on Tues?

I stayed two nights. I was expecting three, but was released after two. No idea why.

I was pre approved for three nights and they tossed me out after one night.  I don't know if it was something I said or what.

Thanks Gentlemen!  I suspect they are motivated by the insurance companies to get patients out of there as fast as possible.

Hi Lynn,  I had Dr. Su on a Saturday and went home Monday, HSS has all their Ducks in a Row and does a great job.
If anyone is planning on staying overnight with you one surprise was the weekend schedule, the Cafeteria across the street in the Bellaire Guest facility is not open on weekends, and the Bridge was not available either.

I was out after 2 nights.  I passed out on the first night and if I hadn't prob would have gone home sooner.

      I was so excited, and drugged up, I left after 1 night.  Should have stayed and enjoyed a day of sleeping but after seeing the doctor and doing my up and about PT, they basically rolled me out.  I had someone from the family waiting to drive me home (7 hrs) and I think my Oxycontin made me feel guilty about lounging about.  I would think staying as long as possible would be safer, though, particularly if you develop some post op complications.   Good luck!

I was supposed to go home at the end of day 2. But by then, I was so nauseated from the iron infusion into the IV and the pain meds that I couldn't finish the PT requirements needed to get released. Finally on day 4 the PT came in, unhooked my drip machine, and told me to go home. My hub was there so we packed me up and the nurse took me to my car and put me in. I had a hospital bucket in my lap and a washrag on my forehead. So - long story short - 4 days in hospital. Should have left early on Day 2 when things were going well.

The PT said I'd do a lot better at home. She was right.

The hospital nursing staff seemed to be ticked off with me for getting all nauseated and having to stay a bit longer. Probably just my warped perceptions at the time. My advice is to stay as long as needed for safety but get out as soon as possible.

Three nights the first time (more difficult procedure for the worse hip), then two nights for the second. I was ready both times, they were very supportive, but I do think that unless there are complications, the quicker you're home the better.

My bilateral resurfacing was done on December 20th by Dr. Schmitt.

I stayed 3 nights in the hospital and was discharged on Friday the 23rd.

Hubs struggled as a full time caretaker, I had an interaction with my anticoagulant, and I was generally miserable.

Now, that's all in the past, and I'm literally making great strides toward my future.

Surgery Monday at 11:15 and home Tuesday afternoon.  One night is pretty standard for local patients of Dr. Gross.  Out of state patients stay 2 nights.

I had surgery at 10 a.m. and was discharged at 9:30 p.m. the same day.  It worked for me.

Four nights. Admitted night before surgery on a Tues & had organised with Surgeon to fly home Sat morning. I was more than ready.
Most folk who are flying home are done that way over here in NZ. It's easier to get assistance travelling home if baby sitters etc are required (as in my case) during a weekend.

Surgery on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m., crutched out of the hospital at 1:00 p.m. the next day.  Had excellent care, but wanted to go home.
