What's up with the swelling?

The doctor said to expect more swelling when I left the hospital.  The at home nurse said it would go down my leg to my foot before it would start to get better (the good news is that my foot is swollen now).  How long is long. When I'd your swelling go away?

It's odd but I had very little swelling. So, I didn't ice much when I got home. Result - lots of bruising around the incision. But never had a lot of swelling.

Haven't a clue as to why. Most people do and they will be able to help you figure out what to expect on that front.

Hope it goes away quickly.

My foot swelling (with minimal discoloration) lasted three to four days!

Swelling lasted a couple weeks at least, bruising got worse for first 5-7 days, then was gone along some timeframe as swelling.

Thx

I had swelling that traveled down my leg but no bruising.  It lasted a little over a week.  Most of that time it seemed to be located from just above the knee (outside part), then it moved to the calf and then the ankle.  It never really reached my foot!  My knee was very achy when it was around my knee. Ice and elevation certainly helped it.

Thanks all for the feedback. No bruising yet but my leg is big.  I iced and elevated all day and took it a bit easier.  I have been pretty mobile since I came home and I'm wondering if this has contributed.  Today I rested alot.

After the initial swelling, I got swelling two times early when I did a lot of work.  In the Rusk Rehab Hospital the PT told me not to worry and to keep icing every hour.  It went down the next day.  At home, I swelled up one time and got on the ice and it was gone again the next day.

Just keep icing, it should keep the swelling down for you.  It did for me.
