Got the call this afternoon - first surgery (left BHR, Dr. Brooks) is a go for tomorrow AM at Euclid Hospital in Cleveland. Not too anxious but I wish I could fast forward through the next 24 hours, especially the anesthesia part. Irrational, I know. Hey, it's an adventure and I should embrace it, especially as the alternative - probably a hoveround or something like it - is not one I can face. So off I go... Anyway, I'm not much of a blogger but I hope I can capture a couple points that others might find useful. See you on the other side. Hoorah!

Great luck dozer, just enjoy the ride. You'll be fine, I was worried about the anesthesia too, until I experienced it and realized it was the coolest thing EVER!  Just drop and immediately wake up fixed !

Freaking awesome! You'll be there in no time.

Dozer;

Good luck, you are in very, very good hands.   The anesthesia was a breeze for me, I had a couple of spine surgeries 20 years ago and that was much worse in terms of anesthesia.

With this one, at Euclid with Dr. Brooks and the entire team there, I had the earliest slot in the morning, I had zero bad after effects from being put out (twilighted and spinal I think), was up and as alert by lunchtime as you can be with the pain meds.  I really do not remember anything from the pre-op prep room, until being in the room on the 5th floor.  The nursing and medical staff managed pain very well.

Your new hip will amaze you, just follow the exercises, obey the restrictions as much as possible, eat, sleep, ice, heal, etc and the first few weeks will be behind you.  After that it is slow and steady progress each week.

I'm 4 weeks behind you for my second one.   Tick, tock, tick......excited about getting this one, no panic like before the first one.

Dozer,
Good luck mate - you'll be absolutely fine.
Anxiety was the worst for me - I was actually looking forward to the anesthesia. I knew that would be the end of my long build up - then the work & road to a pain free active life could start! I'm 9 weeks post op & haven't felt this good in years!
Sit back & enjoy the ride.

I think I'm more anxious than he is right now.  I'll be there for the whole thing, and will post a note when it's all over.  (phew...) Can't believe it's finally here.

Best wishes.  You will be on the road to your new life before you know it.

Hey, All.  Dozer is out of surgery and in recovery.  Dr. Brooks said it went "perfect!".  And he should be coming home on his birthday.  Yay!  We're finally on the other side of this thing.

Thanks for all your support. :)

Just a quick note to close this thread. Came home yesterday and today I'm sitting in my living room, having a cup of joe and feeling great. You were right about  my worries - all for naught. Anyway, thanks to you all for the encouragement.

Dozer,

It is great to hear you are doing well, keep icing and stay ahead of the pain, and you'll be doing great in no time.   Three weeks to go for my right BHR with Brooks, excited to be getting it completed.

Dozer-

I worried about what had happened when you said "to close this thread.". Glad to hear it is because everything is going well.

Take it slow and easy.  There will be the inevitable ups and downs, mentally as much as physically.

Best wishes.
