My experience the first four hours after surgery was very different than everyone else's.  I was in a lot of pain. I think it may be what other's have called Monkey Fist but I am not sure.  Please do not let that scare you though. I am the oddity here. I have not found one other person on here that woke up in recovery like I did.  All I kept saying in between drifting back out, was I can't take the pain somebody do something.  It was a very localized pain in my hip socket, it felt like a golf ball and it just kept throbbing.  I am also very sensitive to medication.  I require half of what others take to get the same results.  So I was so drugged up I could barely keep my eyes open. That is the upshot here.  With the pain meds I probably was aware of the pain a total of maybe ten minutes out of those four hours. I just woke up, complained about the pain and went right back out. I remember seeing my boyfriend at one point and he just didn't even know what to do to help me.  They tried to get me up to stand on my legs and take one step, assisted on both sides of course, but I couldn't feel my operated leg. It was as if it wasn't there. I couldn't do it.  It took about 12 hours before I could even barely feel anyone touch my leg.  The nurses told me this was unusual. But again, I am very sensitive to drugs so I think even the dose on the novicaine was probably more than I needed.
I have to say though I think my recovery after that has been far less painful than some. I expected it to be far more painful and take longer to feel this good.  The hardest part for me was getting in and out of bed, but once I was up and moving or laying back down, it really wasn't that bad.
