Happy holidays, real glad you're making a good comeback.

So, I just wanted to catch everyone up on my recovery. i spent the winter doing a lot of skiing, ice hockey, running, and P90 X. I was really happy to be finished with P90X about three weeks ago. Shortly after I finished I started to return to some sprint training, with an eye towards the Connecticut senior games on May 18 where I hoped to run the 50, 100, and 200 m dash.

I strained my back (on the non-operated hip side). Instead of taking it easy and resting it, like someone my age should do, I played hockey through it, did a couple of sprint workouts through it, and even did a plyometrics workout through it. Yup, I'm in idiot, and you guessed it. It got substantially worse.

I'm an optimist by nature, and so I believe that this is not serious and that I just need to rest it and take it easy and then I will be back. I suppose there's still a 20% chance I will run at those senior games in two weeks, but more likely is that I will have to delay my return to competitive sprinting for a little bit. The Rhode Island senior games are in June and I am looking at that. In the meantime I am content to walk the dog and mow the lawn, while   I heal my back With Advil and ice.

Hey Arrojo,
Glad to hear you've been doing well, except for the minor back issue. You know what would be the smart thing to do, but that never stopped us before right?  :)
I know the body core strengthening has helped me much with the running, especially after the 1 year mark going forward.
Best,
David
Off to a trail half-m in the a.m....excited.

Sorry to hear about the strained back, but that's more a normal training screwup.

Sounds good on the overall recovery, you'll get to the RI senior games.

How did the hip hold up with the P90X?

BTW Arrojo 1:54 on my half...which was a hilly trail route with beach run and stuff.
15 minutes faster than last year...
You will notice that it just keeps getting better.
I am finding that running 2x a week short and fast 3-6 miles plus 1 long one on the weekend 10-13 is working well for me.
Happy for you... :)

Thanks for the update.  15 minutes FTLY!  Very cool.  I'll keep that in mind when I start to get into the distance stuff.
