I am friends on Facebook with Spencer Roberts, his wife posted and said he had an accident with his bike and he broke his (I think his operated) hip.

Please keep him in your prayers, he's been a really great poster on this forum and we thank him for all he's done on Pat's site.

I hate to see anybody go through another surgery, Spencer had to fight hard to keep his resurfacing due to an infection now this happens.

Hey Chuck,

Thanks for the kind words. I was in a crash yesterday, went down very hard on my operated side accelerating out of a corner. There is a good news/bad news issue here. The fracture would have happened regardless of the BHR. The fracture was below the femoral neck near the greater trochanter on the side. What would normally happen in a situation like this is to put a very large
screw all the way up into the femoral head....now the bad or at least challenging news, the BHR stem is in the way so they are going to jury rig it with small screws and a plate. The surgeons had to order the parts from out of stat so I'm laying here in the hospital until surgery can be performed late Monday or Tuesday. Post surgery I'll have no weight bearing 6-12 weeks because this isn't a surgery that's normally done. The surgeon will have a better idea of the length of no weight bearing after he gets in there and gets a feel for the procedure. I'll get through this. Good
case for the sturdiness of the BHR. I'll keep you all updated.

ps: also had 10 stiches in my arm.

best,

spencer

I am sorry to hear about your accident.  It sounds like good news that they can save your BHR.  I hope their fix will work well for you.  I guess you are back to the patience stage with the no weight bearing.  I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.  Keep usposted when you can.

Good Luck.

Wow, I get home from my first triathlon and get this news.  I wish the best for you.  I am really happy that there was no damage to the HR device.  It really is amazing.

You will be in my thoughts and prayers for a successful surgery and speedy recovery.
