Well it was 41 weeks on Thursday! Since morph suggested having my glutes checked out I saw my mate who indeed confirmed that my left glute was significantly atrophied and was not firing at all. My hamstrings were doing all the work that normally the glutes would do. So I have been doing some glute work. It's very very early days(my mate says it can take a long time to regain muscle tone and get the muscle firing properly) but I "think" there's some improvement.
Touch wood this is one of the main things causing my symptoms!

It sounds like your mate knows his stuff,Danny.
Those huge thigh muscles of yours were always gonna take more than the average heal.
Great to hear you positive again-you've been an inspiration to many here.

Good stuff Danny. Great that you found a muscle issue that can be worked on. Giving someone like you a reason to work out a muscle is like giving candy to a kid. Hoping that this, along with time, solves your problems.

Thanks Jon, your kinda right my mate gave me a few exercises to do super super basic like bridge and just literally tensing my glute but I think I've kinda over done it ::) so I've had to lay off slightly for a few days. I've been back at it today and they are stronger. I did some stretching too and rom is pretty good although I still get that sharp pinching in some planes of movement >:( but hopefully as my muscles regain strength etc this will resolve its self.

No probs. Here's a couple of interesting links on the subject:

BTW when doing the bridge you can isolate the glute a wee bit more by raising your toes (dorsiflex) so that all your weight is on your heels, also if you feel too much strain in the hamstrings then move your feet a bit closer to the butt. I think the Clam shell excercise is used for re-learning activation too.

So glad to hear of the positive way forward "like giving candy to a kid" that made me chortle!

I'm ok Danny, been struggling with the blues a bit. I need to get back to it, husband and kids lives are a million mies per hour, I'm still the chocolate fire guard of the family and being used to be on the ball and running all our lives this bit is hard. It's the mental stuff that really takes some beating. I'm concentrating on the moving target advice... It helps. Another day tomorrow! X

Every single person I speak to at the minute seems to be struggling with the mental side of things. How can we solve this problem??? x

Great news Danny- am sure this is the answer! Been doing some more myself, noticed a difference, Thanks morph :)

I found visualising how I was going to be kept positive thoughts. Treated the first 6 weeks as one day at a time, ate regularly, took the pain meds, did the stretching, had afternoon naps. I did not expect or try to do anything else. Just accepted that`s the way it was. Blues hit me after the 6 weeks when I expected too much too soon, so be kind to yourselves xx

Danny, that's excellent that you've got a good way to strengthen the glutes.
