hi all

went to doctors today instead off tomorrow and they told me i wont be able to get refered,because birmingham is not in my options im able to choose from , so the nhs wont pay for it ,because its out off region .
Does any one know off a way i can get round this to be able to get refered to birmingham

Have a quick read of that and if necessary shove it in someone's face at your surgery and demand to have you legal right honoured to see a surgeon of your choice.

I was  to say the same as Ruby. Government policy says that you have the right to chose to be seen at any hospital in the country regardless of where you live. Your GP is talking rubbish. Unfortunately you have to fight in this country to get good care (as I and many others on here have quickly learnt!) Get to know your rights and then YOU tell the GP what you want. Print that link off and take t to him  >:(

Mark Bloomfield went to New Zealand about 18 months ago and stopped NHS work about 3 years ago. He returned to the Uk but as Danny will tell you-he's a very difficult guy to track down and it's unknown whether and where he practices. Yes Jeremy Latham is a hugely experienced HR surgeon as is Ronan Treacy. However, in helping Ez as he's in London he has the those experienced and excellent surgeons close by and is more likely to get a refererral to either of these and in my opinion can't go wrong with Cobb or Haddad.

Hi Ez and welcome. Like others have said, many surgeons say they don`t do BHR, because they aren`t trained to. I changed from essex and went to Birminham to see Mr Mcminn. In Birmingham it`s normal for all nhs patients to be given a BHR as all the doctors are trained there. Head that way and you`ll be just fine :)

Ez it sounds as though you have a useless GP like I had! Believe me you CAN choose the roh in Birmingham on the nhs! All your GP has to do is reffer you! I suspect he just doesn't want to spend money on a refferal. Drop me a pm if you want as I went through all this to get my BHR.
I had mine under Ronan Treacy in birmingham he is the most experienced surgeon in the world and a true mirical worker! You need to see the best and that is Ronan Treacy.

Oh Toby I tracked down Mark bloomfield sometime ago! Hes the clinical director at sussex orthopaedic centre in haywards Heath however I believe his role is purely admin. Also why go to anyone else other than Mr T?! Its not that far from London to Birmingham

I suspect Ez has an awful PCT (Primary Care Trust) who pay for 80% of the NHS' budget. Unfortunately it's all about saving money where they can, even at the expense of a patient's choice it seems. Thank God they're abolishing the PCT's next year.

Don't take what your GP says Ez, you have a legal right to be seen by whomever, and wherever you wish. Really fight to see Mr Treacy. One of the best, if not THE best, in the world and one of the most understanding, caring surgeon's you'll ever meet. I can't praise him enough. He worked a true miracle in my case.
