Does the weather effect your BHR?

Hi guys, just a quick question from me.

It's pouring of rain here in Essex, it's damp, cold and pretty miserable and my hip is the sorest it has been since it's been operated on. Was just curious if the bad or good weather effected your hips?

I have not had that experience at all.  But, for me, weather has never affected my joints.

Hi ruby, don't know about the weather itself, but I know that when it's damp and uncomfortable, I don't move around as much and my muscles get creaky (like that medical term?).

I sometimes get that way during bad weather, but usually my muscles like it warmer, so I attribute it to the inverse of loose and fancyfree--- 'creaky'   :(.

I agree with Hern and Imgetin.  I never actually had much of the weather-related joint discomfort that people talk about.  I do think that weather-related muscle discomfort is the likely answer, especially since you're still repairing.  Also, the warm sun does wonders to the body both physically and mentally.  Maybe you're in need of some plan old sunshine.  When I lived in England, I think I saw the sun less than I have in western Oregon.  They're similar climates, but I do think our summers have more solid sun.   Maybe some heat on the hip would help?

Ruby;

Absolutely does affect me, I had 2 spinal fusions 20 years ago and now the 2 BHR's and I'm a veritable weather station.  I can feel it coming, and it hurts more when low pressure systems are around, and gets better when they pass.  I noticed it with the first BHR last winter, and as recently as Saturday when another front came through.  Pressure changes in air travel produce a similar result.

It is person specific, like those above note, some never seem to have that issue, and some do.

Hope it helps

Thanks all for the input. I definately felt the hip more pre-surgery when it was damp and nasty - it would ache more and more often then not could predict when we'd have rain as my pain levels would increase! It seems to be the same now i'm post-surgery too, albeit not from the hip bone as such now, more muscular as Tin said.

Will get some heat onto it!

Hi, I've had a Wright C+ implant for 2 years 3 months. I do notice, at least for the two falls/winters I've had it, that it is a little more "sore" when it is cold and rainy. Nothing major, but if I have a lot of hard work ( or hard playing) to do, I'll take a couple ibuprofen or a Celebrex. This summer was very warm and dry and I rarely took any medication.
Some day I'd love to move to warmer, dryer year round weather.
Presently I live in the Portland Oregon area and it usually rains a LOT here!
Not really complaining about my hip, though. Overall I love it!  Lu
