Hello Woodstock!

I'm surprised you weren't already in Hawaii...for the Ironman!?

If you're not inclined to expose yourself to the "Background Scatter X-Ray Technology" (or whatever it's called) involved with the scanner, tell a TSA type that you would like to "Opt Out" and that you need a "Male Assist" for an artificial hip joint!  They'll glove up and tell you everything they're going to do during the pat down before they do it (i.e.-"I'll be checking your backside and sensitive areas with the back of my hands").  Once they've covered you head to toe, they'll swab their gloves and test it for explosive residue.  Assuming no alarm sounds...you are good to load your pockets back up, put your belt and shoes back on and be on your way.

May take a couple minutes longer than normal, but pretty painless in my experience.  Why frequent travelers can't just be credentialed and avoid all that drill is what I would like to know!?

Have a relaxing trip!

Bruce

P.S. - As I mentioned earlier...one year anniversary for my right hip last week, but just had the telephonic consult with Dr. Callander yesterday.  He said the BHR image looks "Perfect"!

I think I heard recently on CBS news that they were taking the full body scanners out of NYC airports.  I'll just have to see how it goes.

I think the intention is to replace all the backscatter x-ray scanners with millimeter wave scanners, New York being included. This only passes through the clothes and reflects off the body, software is then programmed to detect any threatening objects under the clothing...  It is deemed to be safer and less obtrusive....  :)
