As a follow up to Dee's post about being given a choice between cement less devices I just received an email from Dr. Gross' office explaining this new protocol.

Dr. Gross notes that the devices have different design rationales with theoretical advantages but littl hard data to back up manufacturers' claims.  His goal is to do a randomized study to test over time whether one device produces better outcomes.

Lee Webb indicated that Dr. gross will post information on this new approach on his website shortly.

Surgery went great. Up on the walker at 4 pm for a short walk about. Resting and doing well. Second time around is a little easier so far.

Good luck Dee, although your surgery might be over.  Can't wait to hear from you with your results.

Surgery went well.  Dr. Gross said the hip was worn out and to the bone, but not as bad as the right hip I had done 6 months ago.

I think this hip has been easier to handle.  I feel more comfortable getting around than with the first surgery.  I wanted to practice going up and down steps on the day I was being released.  I was cruising around the hallways on the crutches.  When I made it to the pt room I started feeling weak.  I asked for a chair and ended up passing out.  I caused a lot of commotion.  It was just low blood pressure from doing too much.

The pt girls said I was fortunate that the second operation seemed easier.  When they get people back in that have more difficulties than the first  -they are not "happy campers."

The only other complication is the itching from the narcotics.  I did not have that with the first surgery.  Dr. Gross was matter of fact. Take the Benadryl so you won't itch or you will be in pain if you stop the pain meds too soon.

I am glad to be home and resting in my own environment.  My dear husband has been wonderful taking care of me.  My first night home was a little rough with pain.  I am icing and staying on top of it today.

I am looking forward to this time next year.  I should be strong and flexible again!

Awesome Dee!  Glad things are going pretty well.  I nearly passed out twice on that first day, so I get that feeling!  And I have to say I hated the narcotics, but in a few of days you will probably be off them and feeling better.

Good luck with the next few days!

Dee - great news.

I had my second hip done 14 months ago and my range of motion is amazingly (is that a word?) improved.  Looking forward to cross country ski trails this year after taking last year off as part of my recovery.  Keep us posted

Congratulations on the second resurfacing.  Take it easy and you will have a great new year!

Good Luck.

Hey Dee  so glad your feeling better.  Are you a righty or a lefty.  The reason I ask is that supposedly your dominant side heals more quickly.  I am no expert and repeating what Lee was talking to me about.  Had mine done same time and my left finally caught up to the right after 3 weeks.

Tin Soldier

Good job DeeDee.  I seem to have been off on other topics for the last few weeks.  Can't keep up.  Hope the recovery is still going smoothly.

Ross- Interesting about the dominant side, sounds totally reasonable to me.  My right is my dominant side and it did seem to heal quicker and the whole event was easier.  Although it was my second, so not sure if that had anything to do with it.
